Pump and Compressor Technician at MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATES LLC – Franklin, Tennessee
About This Position
We are seeking an experienced Pump and Compressor Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial and commercial pumping and compressed air systems. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician who is interested in expanding into the medical gas field through structured training and certification. The selected candidate will be developed into a Medical Gas Technician supporting healthcare infrastructure and life-safety systems.
Key Responsibilities
Pump & Compressor Systems
- Diagnose, repair, and overhaul centrifugal, positive displacement, and vacuum pumps
- Service rotary screw, reciprocating, scroll, and oil-free compressors
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical seals, bearings, valves, motors, and controls
- Align shafts, balance components, and verify operating tolerances
- Troubleshoot vibration, pressure loss, overheating, and contamination issues
- Read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and OEM manuals
Medical Gas Development Path
- Receive training in NFPA 99 medical gas codes and compliance
- Assist with medical air, vacuum, oxygen, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen systems
- Learn source equipment maintenance, alarm systems, and pipeline integrity testing
- Participate in hospital commissioning, inspections, and documentation
- Progress toward Medical Gas Certification
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete service reports, inspections, and compliance documentation
- Follow OSHA, ASME, NFPA, and facility safety standards
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant work practices
Required Qualifications
- 1-2 years’ experience with pumps and/or compressors
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Experience with industrial, commercial, or facility systems
- Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally
- Professional communication and customer-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, pharma, or mission-critical environments
- Electrical or controls troubleshooting background
- Vibration analysis or alignment experience
- Any prior medical gas exposure (not required)
Training & Advancement
- Company-paid Medical Gas training and certification
- Mentorship under certified Medical Gas Technicians
- Career progression into Medical Gas Source Technician or Medical Gas Technician roles
- Cross-training in calibration, compliance testing, and healthcare infrastructure
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
- Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
- Stand, climb, kneel, and perform hands-on mechanical work
