About This Position
JOB TITLE: Mechanical Design Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Tooling and Design
REPORTS TO: Tooling/Design Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: The Design Engineer is responsible for the research, design, and implementation of company products and systems with an emphasis in assembly methods including automation. Performing various tasks such as conceptual design, part and assembly modeling, detailed drawings, prototyping, and establishing manufacturing processes through CAD based design and analysis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Use CAD software to develop models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for hand and automation assembly equipment, test equipment, and gaging
2. Work closely with Engineering and toolroom on design concepts, manufacturing requirements, and design realization
3. Evaluate customer requirements and work with various departments to define the design scope of work
4. Develop test prototypes and confirm designs
5. Research new materials, technologies, and methods of manufacture
6. Work with suppliers to procure new technologies to complement automation design
7. Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards
8. Understand basic blueprint reading and GD&T
9. Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines, work individually, and in team environments
10. Must exhibit good leadership qualities, professionalism, and self-motivation
11. Strong communication and problem-solving skills
12. Must have excellent attention to detail and documentation capabilities
13. Perform all other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
POSITION TYPE
This is a salaried-exempt full-time position.
TRAVEL
Travel (less than 10% of work time).

Requirements:REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have a minimum of a High School education with post schooling preferred (Associate’s degree in Engineering/Science/Technology or a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering). The ideal candidate must have a solid working knowledge of mechanical systems with strong mechanical aptitude. Must be proficient in creating 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and drawings using solid model software (i.e. SolidWorks).
