SUMMARY: The Commercial Landscape Construction Foreman is a working crew leader responsible for the execution, quality control, and inspection readiness of commercial landscape maintenance services. This role leads a crew in maintaining turf, beds, and site conditions while ensuring properties meet contract standards and municipal inspection requirements. The Foreman is accountable for crew productivity, site quality, and identifying and correcting deficiencies in real time.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Crew Leadership & Execution- Lead and supervise a crew performing commercial lawn maintenance (mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, site clean-up).
- Coordinate daily routes, crew assignments, and equipment to meet productivity targets.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with contract scope, site plans, and service schedules.
- Conduct routine site inspections using standardized checklists (trees, shrubs, turf, grading, general site conditions).
- Identify deficiencies and direct corrective actions, including:
- Turf establishment, mowing standards, and weed control compliance.
- Bed definition, mulch depth, spacing, and plant health.
- Tree condition (alignment, pruning, staking, root flare exposure, clearance).
- Drainage issues, low spots, erosion, and compaction.
- Safe access and mower clearance around site features.
- Ensure sites meet municipal standards and pre-inspection requirements prior to client or city review.
- Maintain properties at or above 90% establishment and overall visual quality standards.
- Monitor site conditions for hazards, damage, encroachments, and deficiencies.
- Ensure debris, construction remnants, and safety risks are removed or escalated.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Enforce safe work practices and company safety policies.
- Conduct tailgate meetings and ensure hazard awareness on all sites.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including weed control requirements.
- Complete daily documentation (timesheets, inspection reports, deficiency tracking).
- Report site issues, delays, or damages to Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Act as on-site lead; escalate client or municipal concerns as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
From November through April, Park Landscaping transitions its primary operations to comprehensive snow and ice management. During this period, all roles adapt to support our winter service commitments. Due to the unpredictable nature of Alberta weather, this position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays during significant snow events to ensure the safety of our clients’ properties.
QUALIFICATIONS:Experience: A minimum three (3) years of commercial landscape or lawn maintenance experience
Previous experience in a Foreman, Lead Hand, or Crew Lead role
- Education & Certification: Valid driver’s license with clean abstract
- WHMIS and basic safety certifications required or willingness to obtain
Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of municipal landscaping standards and inspection criteria
Familiarity with Alberta Weed Control requirements
Understanding of grading, drainage, and erosion control basics
Systems & Technical Experience: Proficient in commercial mowing and maintenance equipment
Experience using inspection checklists, site plans, and job tracking systems
Crew leadership and accountability
Quality control and inspection readiness
Attention to detail (horticultural and site conditions)
Productivity and route management
Safety awareness and enforcement
Problem-solving and decision-making in the field
Physically demanding work including walking, lifting, and equipment operation
Continuous outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Exposure to noise, dust, and mechanical equipment
Early starts, extended hours, and weekend work during peak season
