Job Summary

The CFO, or Controller, oversees the Club’s financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, payroll, and tax matters. This includes preparing monthly financial statements, managing internal audits, coordinating budgets, analyzing expenditures, and advising on variances. This role supervises the accounting staff, oversees tax returns, works with external auditors, manages IT systems, and prepares reports for the Board and committees.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises accounting staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, developing, assigning work, and disciplining, following all Club policies and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Directs the financial operations of the Club.
  • Formulates, receives, and recommends policy proposals for approval relating to accounting and auditing, the budget, and cost control.
  • Leads preparation and payment of payrolls, tax matters, compilation of statistics and office methods and procedures when approved.
  • Oversees and supervises preparation of applicable federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Prepares monthly trial balance and resulting financial statements for the Club, along with required supporting schedules and other necessary data for financial reports and records.
  • Manages and conducts internal auditing programs to assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
  • Prepares budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with the various committees, departments, and General Manager; analyzes financial information, monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and advises management about variances and their potential causes.
  • Works with the Club’s external auditors to assure that procedures are consistent with Club policies.
  • Prepares and verifies reports made to agencies and trade and professional organizations for which dissemination is consistent with Club policies.
  • Informs and advises other department heads regarding the financial aspects of their areas.
  • Prepares accounting reports as necessary and appropriate for dissemination to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and other Club committees.
  • Partners with General Manager when performing audits, including monthly review by the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, and annual formal examination by independent outside auditors.
  • Verifies that insurance records for Club property are maintained.
  • Manages the Club’s information technology systems by servicing hardware and troubleshooting software issues.
  • Follows CCM mission and values, including providing the best quality service possible. “Service with a Smile” is a key element in providing a positive experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge in the subject areas of accounting and management information systems.
  • A command-level knowledge of accounting theory and principles, and of federal, state, and local laws are required.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and mathematical ability, as well as reasoning or problem-solving ability.
  • Must have the ability to shift gears quickly between tasks.
  • Must be able to think both globally and in detail.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and with frequent deadlines.
  • Must lead and practice in ethical, trustworthy, and responsible behaviors.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting and with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
  • Food and beverage, hospitality and information systems exposure or experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times, with or without accommodation.
