About This Position

The Security Officer II reports to the Director of Security and is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and property at the Community Hospital of Bremen. This critical role involves continuous monitoring of hospital activities, prompt response to emergencies, prevention of disturbances, and strict enforcement of security protocols. The officer will be armed while on duty to maintain a consistently secure environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and Respond:
    Actively observe hospital activities, ensure timely response to emergencies, manage alarms, and control access points to maintain security.
  • Enforce Safety Protocols:
    Ensure adherence to hospital policies, coordinate with law enforcement when necessary, and initiate lockdown procedures as required.
  • Support Department Functions:
    Provide escort services, enforce parking regulations, screen individuals, conduct investigations, and testify in legal proceedings when necessary.
  • Ensure Hospital Safety:
    Identify and report safety hazards, initiate emergency responses, stay informed of safety procedures, participate in regular training, and maintain all security equipment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in law enforcement, industrial security, or healthcare security, with specific training in the laws of arrest, detention, and rules of evidence.
  • Military police experience may substitute for the required security experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Indiana handgun carry license or current employment as a law enforcement officer.
  • Completion of a basic firearms safety and training course, with annual handgun proficiency qualifications.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in surveillance techniques, closed-circuit television systems, and a solid understanding of citizen rights.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Competence in using computer systems for report preparation and other tasks.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs, restrain individuals, and work in various weather conditions and able to perform the essential functions of the position.
