Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/Technician at City of Oak Ridge TN – Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Essential Functions

• Monitors and records data from various instrumentation and equipment to ensure proper biological and chemical treatment and flow rates of the water or wastewater plant systems.
• Collects samples for analysis, including water quality, chlorine levels and solids determination.
• Maintains records that document compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Maintains records of water quality and other indicators.
• Operates a variety of equipment as part of the plant treatment processes, including filters, pumps, compressors, blowers and feeders.
• Monitors the indicators at the plants and make adjustments as necessary.
• Reads meters and gauges to ensure plant equipment is working properly.
• Adjusts chemical feed rates and treatment plant processes, such as chlorine, being added to the water based on test results.
• Performs plant maintenance such as cleaning and backwashing intake screens, cleaning and calibrating chemical feeders and assisting with cleaning clarifier basins.
• Prepares chemical mixes and performs chemical feeds.
• Use computerized systems to monitor plant processes.
• Notifies maintenance of concerns and assists with diagnosing, problems with mechanical or electrical equipment as necessary.
• Performs routine building cleaning and grounds maintenance, including mopping, bush trimming, lawn mowing and similar activities.
• Reports to work for on-call after hours needs, as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Licensing, and CertificationsTreatment Plant Operator Technician I-1; $20.97 per hour

• High School Diploma/equivalent.
• Previous experience in water or wastewater plant operations preferred.

Treatment Plant OperatorK-1; $24.45 per hour

• High School Diploma/equivalent with one (1) year experience in water or wastewater plant operations.
• Grade III or IV Plant Operator certification in one (1) discipline (Water or Wastewater).

Senior Treatment Plant Operator L-1; $25.90 per hour

• High School Diploma/equivalent with three (3) years’ experience in water and wastewater plant operations.
• Grade IV Plant Operator certification in either water or wastewater treatment; and Grade III Plant Operator certification in other discipline.
