About This Position
The Clean-Room Technician will learn the fundamentals of cleaning, safety, and basic calibration in an oxygen-rich environment. The role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, following strict safety protocols, and supporting simple inspection tasks while gaining hands-on experience in a clean-room setting.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Precision Cleaning, rinsing, and drying components (valves, pipes, gauges) in controlled environments.
- Contaminant removal of combustible substances such as oils, dust, sand, and fibers that can trigger ignition in high-pressure or high-concentration oxygen environments.
- Disassembling, inspecting, and re-assembling simple oxygen systems, including regulators and cylinders, using basic hand tools under supervision.
- Utilizing verification techniques to ensure parts meet basic safety criteria.
- Bagging and labeling components to maintain “oxygen-clean” status before installation.
- Adhering to strict safety protocols to prevent oxygen-enriched atmospheres from becoming flammable.
- Performing introductory calibration, inspecting, measuring, and testing equipment (e.g., pressure gauges) to ensure compliance with published specifications.
- Maintaining primary and/or intrinsic calibration standards as instructed.
- Collecting, compiling, measuring, summarizing, and recording data gathered during simple calibration checks.
- Identifying and correcting measurement errors with guidance.
- Preparing basic clean reports and certificates using standard templates.
- Performing lab housekeeping and maintaining laboratory recognition/accreditation.
- Operating basic lab instruments under supervision while learning core components.
The hired candidate will be trained in and required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Calibration lab – pressure/vacuum
- Clean Lab – O2 Worker
- Minimum 2000 hours of on-the-job (OJT) training (to be eligible for next level tech)
Education / training requirements
- A technical certificate or equivalent from an accredited college/trade school - or - 1 year minimum related technical or military experience.
Required skills/knowledge
- Knowledge of safety and basic quality standards.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra 2, geometry.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
- Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must work with integrity and have strong attention to detail.
- Must be proficient with computers and computer software, such as Microsoft word and excel.
Physical/general requirements
- Ability to lift, carry and transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Bending/squatting/kneeling/stooping/crouching/walking 8 or more hours per day.
- Able to work in multiple environments such as office, industrial or shipboard locations in cold, hot or humid conditions, around moving equipment with potential for producing high noise levels. Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate PPE.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check (for access to shipyards and/or military installations).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Safety

Environment
- Possible exposure to hot and cold climates.
- Occasionally may have to work in dirty environments.
- Able to work in confined spaces and at heights.
Clean Room Environment
When working in the cleanroom, it is an environment that has a low level of environmental pollutants such as dust,
Airborne microbes, aerosol particles and chemical vapors. Appropriate steps to avoid contamination should be utilized at all times including:
- Smoking and eating are prohibited at all times in the Lab
- Smoking accessories, combs, handkerchiefs, jewelry, watches, pencils, Kleenex-type tissues, personal tools, prescription drugs, and medication are prohibited at all times in the Lab.
- Washing of hands and face (if needed) will be done before entering the Lab.
- Personnel with colds, temporary coughing, sneezing, or severe sunburn (peeling skin) will not be allowed in the Lab
- Personnel may not wear cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes, or colognes in the cleanroom.
- Wear appropriate attire under your cleanroom lab coat (skirts, high-heel shoes, shorts, fuzzy clothing, excessive lint or static electricity producing are not appropriate attire.)
- Cover or change your shoes on the way into the clean room.
- Remove cleanroom attire in the opposite order from that in which you donned it.
Travel
Local travel is expected up to 25% of the time.
**SCI provides cross training and other task training as necessary to ensure all positions can be augmented, supported, or fully covered by multiple employees. SCI employees at any level may be assigned at any time to perform tasks unrelated to their primary job description.
