About This Position
Position Overview: The Wellness Support Specialist will play a key role in supporting student behavior management, fostering a positive school culture, and assisting with the overall wellness of students. This position involves collaborating with staff, families, and administration to promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment conducive to student growth and learning. The Wellness Support Specialist will assist in managing student discipline, implementing behavioral interventions, and helping to create a climate that values respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Behavior and Discipline Support:
-Assist in monitoring student behavior and implementing school-wide behavioral expectations.
-Collaborate with teachers to identify students needing behavioral support and develop individualized plans.
-Support students with conflict resolution strategies, helping them manage emotions and resolve disputes constructively.
-Provide guidance and supervision during transitions, recess, and lunch periods to promote positive behavior.
-Track student behavior data and communicate with families about behavior concerns and progress.
School Culture and Climate:
-Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture by modeling positive behavior and fostering relationships with students.
-Implement programs and activities that promote social-emotional learning (SEL) and character development.
-Support the creation of a safe and welcoming environment that values diversity and inclusion.
-Assist in organizing school-wide events, celebrations, and initiatives that enhance the overall school climate.
Collaboration with Staff and Families:
-Work closely with teachers and other school staff to provide guidance on behavior management strategies and interventions.
-Act as a liaison between families and the school, communicating effectively about student well-being, behavior, and academic progress.
-Participate in parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and community-building activities to promote a unified approach to student support.
-Provide resources and guidance to parents on managing student behavior and supporting social-emotional development at home.
Administrative Support:
-Assist in maintaining student records related to behavior and wellness interventions.
-Prepare reports and documentation on student progress and behavioral trends.
-Support the administration in the development and implementation of school policies related to behavior and student discipline.
-Assist with scheduling and organizing meetings related to student support services.
Qualifications:
-Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly in the areas of behavior management and wellness.
-Knowledge of student development, social-emotional learning, and positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS).
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
-Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
-Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
-Compassionate, patient, and solution-oriented mindset when working with students.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Certification in behavior management, social-emotional learning, or related fields.
-Experience with restorative practices or conflict resolution strategies.
-Bilingual are a plus.
