About This Position
Position Highlights:
The Digital Pathology Technician is responsible for the scanning, management, and quality control of pathology slides in a digital format for diagnostic and research purposes. The role involves operating and maintaining digital pathology scanners, ensuring accurate scanning of slides, managing data associated with the digital images, and supporting the workflow in the digital pathology lab. The technician will work closely with pathologists, laboratory staff, and IT personnel to facilitate a seamless digital pathology process.
Responsibilities:
- Operate Digital Pathology Scanners: Responsible for preparing, loading, and scanning pathology slides using high-resolution digital pathology scanning equipment.
- Quality Control: Ensure scanned images meet the required quality standards for diagnosis, identifying and troubleshooting issues such as poor image quality, scan errors, or equipment malfunctions.
- Slide Management: Label, catalog, and manage both physical and digital slide inventories. Maintain an accurate and organized digital slide database for easy retrieval.
- Data Management: Ensure the correct transfer and storage of scanned images to the appropriate databases or cloud systems. Ensure data security and compliance with regulatory requirements (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.).
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of digital scanners to ensure they are operating efficiently and accurately.
- Collaboration with Pathologists and Lab Staff: Work with pathologists and lab staff t prioritize slide scanning based on diagnostic urgency and project timelines. Communicate effectively regarding any issues that might delay processes.
- Technical Support: Provide basic troubleshooting and technical support for equipment and software issues related to digital scanning, escalating issues to IT when necessary.
- Training and Documentation: Assist in training new staff on the use of digital pathology systems and equipment. Maintain detailed logs and records of scanned slides and equipment maintenance.
Minimum Experience Required
- Associate’s Degree in laboratory technology, histotechnology, biomedical engineering, or related field required.
- 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory or pathology setting, preferrable direct experience with digital pathology whole slide image scanners.
- Prior experience in a pathology lab or digital imaging role is preferred, though not required. Experience working with digital pathology equipment or similar imaging technology is a plus.
