TITLE: Back -up B&G Innisfail                                                                     

All Employees, to the BEST of their ability must strive to take ownership of their assigned work area, whether working in a permanent or back-up capacity and move it forward in a safe efficient manner.

Under general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, works alone or with others. Constructs, installs, inspects, assembles, maintains and repairs mechanical systems, components and operation/condition/upkeep/maintenance he/she is responsible to the maintenance Leader. Performs assigned duties, working from written or verbal instruction, in accordance with established operating procedures.

Safety

Uses safe work practices and is responsible for his/her own safety. Reports hazardous conditions.

Wears eye, ear, head, respiratory, and foot protection equipment as required.

Reports all accidents, incidents and near-misses.

Reports to manager any areas, procedures or duties that are unsafe or require corrective action.

Reads and fully understands all applicable SJP’s and updates procedures as needed.

Does Job Hazard assessments as required.

Safety Checks completed as required.

Completes all requirements of the current Safe Plan (CBT: Lock/Tag/Try, Confined Space, WHMIS, ect….., and all required SJP’s )

Completes a minimum of one quality Safety Observation per month.

Stays current on all licensing requirements as needed (fork/clamp truck, bob cat, man lift, propane filling, etc…)

Actively supports (and uses) the Plant 5S initiative and helps move it forward.

Knows and stays familiar with all national, provincial, and local codes as well as company safety rules.

Fill out hot work permits. 

Quality

Uses care and attention to assure all work meets or exceeds requirements.

Uses plant alignment specifications. 

Equipment Maintenance

Performs all types of maintenance, repair and construction work, including duties of other classifications, which are essential to the efficient operation of the plant. 

Emergency Procedures

Assists, as required in the event of a fire, power failure or equipment failure (available for call-in). 

Process Control

Observes mechanical and related machinery and equipment in operation, diagnosing faulty operation, making necessary adjustments, lubrications, or repairs. This includes but is not limited to:

              

                  C) Plant General

plant equipment (general)

environmental and safety equipment

warehouse and shipping (general)

shop equipment

routine environmental inspections

shop and store room

mobile equipment

All other equipment deemed necessary

Removes from service faulty equipment, repairs, tests, lubricates and replaces as applicable.

Carries out mechanical construction work on new equipment or buildings as required.

Makes changes to new and existing equipment as instructed.

Inspects and makes necessary adjustments and repairs to plant fire protection systems including valves and auxiliary mechanical devices. Also inspects, maintains and repairs building and building service systems, except electrical parts thereof, or supervises such work.

Uses hand and power tools of all kinds and a variety of measuring and testing instruments.

Does welding cutting and brazing as required.

Assists in equipment changes and designs.

Coordinates contractors and assists in equipment changes and designs.

Communications

Keeps others informed with clear, concise, timely, and accurate information through the proper use of all communications systems including.

Does work orders, makes out requisitions, inspection reports, time distributions, material usage, etc.., and performs clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed.

Actively participates in safety/communication meetings, as well as area specific communication/problem solving sessions, providing meaningful, useful input.

Training and Follow up

As requested, instruct and follow up on the activities of any assigned or inexperienced helpers.

Use any available training materials (check lists, lockout check lists, CBT, SJP’s, etc..)

 Housekeeping

Always keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly.

Ensure work areas are clean after assigned work is complete (scrap metal, welding rods, oil, etc..)

uses all applicable 5S boards

I.           Computer Skills

Uses computer skills for the following;

Computer network mail.

Data Entry: work orders, parts sign out, etc..

SAP.

Workday.

ADP 

J.          Teamwork

May work with other employees during cleanouts and emergencies, performing any duties necessary to get equipment back into operation in minimum time.

Performs other related duties as directed, including jobs of other classification

Works and cooperates with other crafts people as well as production personnel to solve problems and to safely accomplish jobs in minimum time (troubleshooting)

Provides honest and constructive feedback for peer-to-peer evaluations.

Scheduling and Decisions

          Trouble shoots all types of equipment and defines whether the problem is mechanical in nature. If so, continues trouble shooting and repairs, replaces or adjusts as applicable.

          Assists in design and engineering work, corrects of alters prints when necessary and reports such changes to the engineering department.

          Estimates material and labor costs for specific projects and orders of material as required.

          Ensures that all project work is coded properly.

          Reads, interprets and follows complex prints, diagrams, sketches and manuals, make difficult measurements and calculations necessary to accomplish job. Prepares diagrams and sketches.

          Supports and affects maintenance and repair of all mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems including compressors, pumps, process systems and mechanical controls.

          Supports and directs contractors detailed to him/her for specific jobs and carries such responsibility as assigned by the Maintenance Leader.

          Responsible for authorization of equipment replacement. 

Co-ordinates these efforts with the electrical coordinator and production personnel.

Performs clerical duties necessary to maintain records relative to the work performed.

Works with a maintenance planner.

Help update Standard Job Procedures.
