Job Overview:
The NJMS Medical Scribe provides the department clinicians with documentation assistance and follow-up on diagnostics/consults/orders, etc. This assistance is crucial in providing clinicians with additional time to speak directly to and consult with patients. This is a great opportunity for entry-level healthcare professionals to build on medical knowledge and gain invaluable clinical exposure in working alongside MD’s.
Qualifications:
Required:
- HS Diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of science or clinical coursework at the undergraduate level or above
- Work experience in a direct patient care clinical setting may be considered in lieu of science or clinical coursework
- Work, volunteer, or shadowing experience in the healthcare field
- Experience in a direct patient care environment preferred (e.g. medical scribe, patient care technician, medical assistant, EMT). Must be documented on resume

Scheduling Requirements:
- Day Shift
- Part Time
Essential Functions:
- Assists physician notation in exam rooms
- Maintains patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality
- Maintains patient examination rooms in a clean and professionally presentable state
- Collects and organizes patients' medical records, intake papers, lab results, imaging reports, diagnostic imaging CDs, MRIs and X-rays, and assists physicians with reviewing and documenting these items
- Assists physicians with documentation of the physicians' physical examination, medical history taking, medical assessment diagnoses, medical plan, and in-office procedures, using departmental templates, all for review, editing, and signature by the attending physician
- Copy, fax, or mail medical records or other office documents to relevant parties such as referral sources, insurance companies, etc
- Maintains inventory level of medical supplies and office supplies, and submits inventory replacement requests for signature
- Prepares, pulls and files patient charts as necessary
- Answers phones in a prompt and courteous manner when necessary
- Develops and maintains good human relations skills
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor
- Assists patients with scheduling medical appointments
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the department physicians or their designees
