We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Automotive Technician to join our growing team.
Role Description
The Automotive Technician is responsible for performing accurate diagnostics, high-quality repairs, and preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles. This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to craftsmanship.
Technicians are expected to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards and ensuring customer safety. This role plays a critical part in maintaining shop productivity, customer satisfaction, and overall service excellence.
Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Repair
• Perform comprehensive automotive diagnostics to identify issues
• Complete repairs including:
o Engine Repair
o Drive Train/Axles
o Suspension & Steering
o Brake Systems
o Electrical Systems
o Heating & Air Conditioning
o Engine Performance
o Light Vehicle/Diesel (as applicable)
• Utilize schematics, scan tools, and technical manuals to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems
• Perform alignments and necessary vehicle adjustments
Quality & Efficiency
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and accuracy
• Complete repairs within allotted flat-rate time guidelines
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Use tools and equipment safely and properly
• Protect customer vehicles and parts from damage
Communication & Teamwork
• Communicate findings clearly with Service Writers and management
• Provide maintenance recommendations when appropriate
• Collaborate with team members to improve workflow and efficiency
Required Qualifications
• State of Michigan Mechanic Certification and/or ASE Certifications (not all required but preferred)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Automotive Technician
• Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and service manuals
• Strong work ethic and commitment to producing high-quality repairs
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements for an Automotive Technician in a repair shop environment include:
• Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally heavier components with assistance
• Prolonged standing for extended periods throughout the workday (8–10+ hours)
• Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and reaching
• Ability to work under vehicles using lifts and floor jacks
• Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computer systems
• Visual acuity to read schematics, diagnostic screens, and identify mechanical issues
• Ability to work in varying shop conditions including noise, heat, cold, and exposure to automotive fluids
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment and lifts
Work Environment & Schedule
• Monday – Friday (9-hour shifts)
• Saturday (6-hour shift available)
• Expected hours: Approximately 45 hours per week
• Full-time, on-site role
Compensation
• $30-$40 per hour / Negotiable depending on experience
• Compensation is based on a flat-rate structure multiplied by booked labor hours
• High-performing technicians have strong earning potential based on productivity
