What You’ll Do
As a Vascular Ultrasound Tech, you will report to the Practice Manager. Performs ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of ultrasound equipment and high frequency ultrasound waves with a focus on vascular procedures and examinations. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the Radiologist. Ensures quality patient care is provided. Performs research functions in order to conference with physicians.
Vascular Ultrasound Tech Job Responsibilities:
- Performs ultrasound scans (abdominal, Doppler, vascular) using high-frequency equipment per protocols while ensuring quality patient care.
- Obtains clinical history, communicates with referring physicians, explains procedures to patients, and practices sterile/ isolation techniques.
- Assesses patient condition, reports concerns, performs CPR, and other emergency procedures as needed.
- Selects appropriate transducers and conductive gels to optimize imaging and minimize reactions; utilizes digital storage systems.
- Conducts vascular studies, including segmental pulse volume recordings, Doppler waveforms, blood pressure measurements, ankle-brachial and toe-to-ankle indices, and determines need for PPG.
- Assists physicians during vascular procedures, maintains sterile field, provides ultrasound guidance, recovers patients, provides discharge instructions, and fits compression stockings.
- Supports clinic operations through inventory management, patient scheduling, insurance verification/prior authorizations, recordkeeping, report preparation, and other assigned duties.

As a Vascular Ultrasound Tech, you will demonstrate strong analytical skills to evaluate information and records using measurable criteria and to obtain and act on quality assurance data. You will possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact tactfully and professionally with patients, families, physicians, visitors, and colleagues. You will apply clinical assessment expertise and proficiency in vascular examination and testing, ensuring proper patient positioning with minimal discomfort. You will understand and follow oral and written instructions in radiographic and medical terms, maintains concentration and attention to detail when operating diagnostic imaging equipment, and collaborates effectively with reading and referring physicians to support high-quality patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved school of radiology or ultrasound technology.
- Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- Ultrasound certification by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) or obtained within the first six months of employment.
- Certification by the Indiana State Board of Health.
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
