About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY: The RN participates in assuring the implementation of the established health care plan(s) for a specified number of clients as delegated and supervised by the another RN. Implementation is limited to the care of clients whose health status would be expected to change only over a period of days and weeks, rather than minutes and hours. The RN functioning in the 'nurse-in-charge' role may legally delegate nursing care activities to another practical nurse or to unlicensed assistive personnel (nurse aides) only when all of the following criteria are met: a) qualifications of personnel to whom nursing activities may be delegated have been validated by the RN; b) a RN is continuously available for notification of significant changes in client status, consultation regarding further evaluation and care planning decisions and on-going supervision of all personnel implementing nursing care; c) the RN participates in on-going observations of clients and evaluation of clients' responses to nursing actions; d) the RN maintains accountability for self and by all other personnel to whom such care is delegated; e) supervision by the RN is limited to the validation that tasks have been performed as delegated and according to established standards of care within the practice setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Holds a current North Carolina license as a registered nurse. Trained in the standards of DFS, Federal Medicare Regulations & Medicaid Regulations for long term care. Must be able to work under the direction of the Director of Nursing, follow written or verbal instruction effectively; calculate & administer medications according to Brantwood Nursing Center policies & procedures; monitor effectively the care of the patient & do audits to assure adequate care is administered by CNA's, LPN's and other RN's under the direct supervision of another RN or Director of Nursing.. Participants in educational conferences, completes educational in-services & updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of practice. Position accountable for delivery of patient care under the direction of another RN or Director of Nursing.
AGE SPECIFIC INFORMATION: Employee should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his or her assigned unit. Individual will demonstrated and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift a patient weighing as much as 250lbs several times daily with the assistance of another employee as needed and if needed be able to use the proper equipment such as the Hoyer Lift thus protecting both the resident and self. Must be able to assist in transferring patient from bed to chair and assist in turning patient every two hours as needed. Physical functions involve lifting, pulling and pushing patients. Must possess the ability to function at a fast pace and sometimes in a stressful environment.
