About This Position
Position Description Summary:
RSi is looking to fill a Computer Operator II or III position to support our NASA customer. The Computer Operator II monitors and controls mainframe or minicomputer systems to process data, following operating instructions to set up equipment, run jobs, manage input/output materials, troubleshoot errors, maintain records, and may test or help modify programs, with roles ranging from trainees to lead operators providing technical support.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Process a range of scheduled computer routines and system operations
- Monitor and operate systems while resolving common error conditions
- Diagnose and respond to machine stoppages and complex errors not covered by standard procedures
- Perform corrective actions such as resetting controls or making minor mechanical adjustments to restore operations
- Interpret computer output instructions and take appropriate action
- Deviate from standard procedures when necessary to resolve issues
- Escalate unresolved problems to supervisory or higher-level technical personnel
Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications:
- Associate degree with 2 to 4 years’ experience in Electronics, Electrical Technology or a degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, with minimum of one (1) year experience in related field.
- Background in electronics and computer-related disciplines, with an understanding and working knowledge of computer use in the Windows environment.
Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/IT Skills/Certifications:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Fundamental mathematical skills
- Must be dependable and have the ability to work hours outside the normal schedule.
- Good communication (written and verbal) skills in order to gather, understand, and meet customer requirements.
- Perform preventative and routine maintenance of infrastructure and equipment.
- Follow standards and guidelines to ensure safety.
Work Environment: Office setting with minor support opportunities at test facilities
Physical Environment (outside, inside, heights, stairs etc) /Requirements (lifting, heights, bending etc): Ability to lift up to 10 pounds, and sit for long periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
Other: Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
