Position purpose
We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level Cybersecurity Systems Security Engineer with a strong emphasis on healthcare environments to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure systems that protect sensitive patient and clinical data. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations while defending against evolving cyber threats.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

  • Design, implement, and maintain security controls across enterprise systems, including cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments.
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to security incidents, including threat detection, investigation, and remediation.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards such as HIPAA, HITECH, and HITRUST.
  • Ensure correct level of system patches and create remediation plans for critical patches.
  • Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing to identify system weaknesses.
  • Work with scripting/remote management tools to automate deployment of patches and critical security vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and clinical systems teams to integrate security into system architecture and workflows.
  • Secure electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical devices, and healthcare applications.
  • Develop and maintain security documentation, policies, procedures, and incident response plans.
  • Support audits and regulatory assessments, including internal and external reviews.
  • Implement identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and endpoint security solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, especially those targeting healthcare organizations (e.g., ransomware, data breaches).

  • Qualifications
    Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, STEM or related field

  • Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–6 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or systems security roles.
  • Hands-on experience with security tools such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability management platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, operating systems (Windows endpoint/server), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with healthcare IT systems, including EHR platforms and medical device security.

  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CEH, Security+, or HCISPP.

  • Knowledge of cloud security and compliance (AWS, Azure, GCP)


  • Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Experience working in a hospital, healthcare provider, or health-tech environment.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust architectures.
  • Experience with data privacy, encryption standards, and secure data exchange protocols (HL7, FHIR).
  • Experience with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Familiarity with threat modeling and risk assessment methodologies
  • Experience securing IoT/medical devices in clinical environments

  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both an operational and tactical level.

  • Experience in developing and deploying security specific solutions including the automation of repeatable security tasks and controls.
