About This Position

Electrician (EGH)

Reports to the Manager. Performs a variety of preventive maintenance duties, repairs, alterations, and modifications of buildings, equipment, and systems. Responds to and follows through on corrective maintenance of serious problems or conditions as reported by other Plant Maintenance staff or as instructed by supervision.

Maintenance of Equipment and Systems

  • Repairs equipment in a timely fashion and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinates removal and repair sent to outside contract service.
  • Troubleshoots system problems and make recommendations to management of suggested solutions.
  • Assures that needed materials are on site to facilitate new equipment and systems installations in a timely manner.
  • Provides coordination of tasks for projects involving several maintenance mechanics.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures on all electrical equipment of a non-clinical nature.
  • Ensures systems are upgraded when necessary to maintain un-interrupted service to EGH.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Completes basic PMs by the due date, and in accordance with printed task and procedure codes.

Materials

  • Assures that an adequate and appropriate stock of electrical materials is maintained for Engineering Staff.
  • Maintains an orderly stock storage area.
  • Works with Maintenance Manager and Materials Management to obtain materials.

Maintenance Mechanic

  • Performs the duties of Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Performs Energy Center duties, i.e., rounds and tests, as per the work scheduled determined by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department
  • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a High School diploma or equivalent and completion of four years of trade school education including electrical courses, four years experience working in conjunction with a Journeyman Electrician in a work environment and successful completion of a Journeyman course and examination. Journeyman Card and valid state issued Driver's License are required. A minimum of two to five years of job-related experience including familiarity with hospital systems and industrial electrical installations required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires knowledge of complex commercial and institutional maintenance and repair procedures related to electricity.
  • Requires the mechanical ability to perform repairs on a variety of hospital equipment using specific hand and power tools as related to electrical trade.
  • Demonstrates and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, hospital staff and the public.
  • Demonstrates the analytical ability necessary to perform calculations, interpret data from diagrams, blueprints, schematics and manuals and diagnose and solve problems with equipment and systems.

Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to undesirable working conditions due to electrical shock, fumes, extreme temperature, duct noise, asbestos, hazardous materials, gases and steam.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders, walk, stand for prolonged periods of time, etc.) to perform the essential duties of the position.
