Golf Course Spray Tech at JUF Operations LLC – Fajardo

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Moncayo Golf & Ocean Club, set outside of Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

Moncayo Golf & Ocean Club is seeking a Golf Course Spray Technician to join the Golf Course Maintenance Department.

Purpose of Position:
The spray technician under supervision of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and/or Course Supervisors, performs work involving the use of chemical spraying equipment and fertilizer spreaders; they also operate small hand help sprayers, hand-powered equipment, large equipment including tractors, trucks and other related maintenance equipment. Also performs routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance.

Skills & Knowledge Required:
Knowledge of safe handling of turf chemicals and fertilizers. Knowledge of safe handling efficient mechanical operation of spray rigs, tractors and other motorized equipment. Mechanical aptitude.

Work Experience & Education:
Previous golf course chemical and fertilizer application experience is a plus.

Key Result Area: Golf Course Maintenance

• Operates various spraying equipment and fertilizer spreaders
• Safely handles turf chemicals and fertilizers
• Operates course maintenance equipment as directed by his/her supervisor.
• If required, mows greens, tees, fairways and roughs with the specified equipment.
• Observes safe-operating procedures at all times.
• Aerifies greens and tees; Verti-cuts fairways, tees and greens; spikes greens; operates sod cutter, spray rigs for greens and fertilizer spreaders; and mows rough with rotary and operates other equipment as directed.
• Ensures that the equipment cooling system is working at all times; refills fuel and oil daily; cleans equipment daily, and reports equipment problems or failures to equipment manager immediately.
• Provides basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the equipment manager or assistant superintendent and for returning equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility.
• If required, sets tee markers and cups on greens daily.
• When needed, removes debris; sands and seeds tee and drop area divots.
• Helps in project work; assists in the construction of new greens, tees and fairways; grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds tees, greens and fairways.

Physical Requirements:

• Required to work outside for long periods of time to perform his/her duties
• Required to assist in manual labour activities when necessary
