Injection Nurse Job Description:
I. Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to identify the qualifications and standards for pharmacy
personnel. Pharmacy employees will meet the following requirements and competencies listed.
This position description provides a general overview of the type of work performed by
employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a
comprehensive list of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications that may be required of the
employee assigned to the position. Depending on the facility, job duties may vary. Employees
will be assessed annually by their supervisor.
II. Scope: This policy applies to Injection Nurses who report directly to the Pharmacist in Charge.
III. Job Summary: The Injection Nurse position at Janus RX is a licensed clinician that acts to serve
the clients and providers of a mental health pharmacy. Primary responsibilities include but are
not limited to:
❖ Administering long acting injectables.
❖ Scheduling appointments.
❖ Follow up and documentation with patients.
❖ Promoting injection and pharmacy services.
❖ Providing excellent customer service to the clients of Janus RX Pharmacy.
A key function will be ensuring that Janus RX clients receive their medication(s) and are pleased
with the services that we provide.
IV. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Job Duties:
❖ Administer injections to Janus RX clients including screening, counseling, and
documentation.
❖ Schedule appointments, provide reminder calls, and ensure follow-up on all
appointments with providers.
❖ Maintain communication with the pharmacy on patient prescription needs.
❖ Track and maintain a schedule of refills and administration.
❖ Provide onsite education to clinics about the injection service that Janus RX provides as
well as other pharmacy services.
❖ Assist with patient retention in the pharmacy by placing customer service calls.
❖ Maintain adequate stock levels of injection administration supplies.
❖ Maintain the injection clinic ‘will-call’ area and ensure that prescriptions are processed
prior to patient arrival and reversed if the prescription is no longer needed.
2. Professional Responsibilities
❖ Completes annual continuing education requirements.
❖ Maintains regulatory requirements.
❖ Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
❖ Complies with all organizational policies.
3. Regulatory Requirements:
❖ Possess and maintain a valid professional license/certification/registration issued by the
State Board of Nursing.
❖ Abide by and uphold the privacy rule standards of HIPAA.
4. Minimum Employment Requirements:
❖ LPN or RN License
5. Preferred Qualifications:
❖ Minimum of one (1) year experience (mental health preferred).
6. Language Skills:
❖ Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
7. Skills:
❖ Desire to help the underserved population in the mental and behavioral healthcare
community.
❖ Strong desire to assist consumers with their medication plan to create the right outcome
with an emphasis on customer care.
❖ Strong customer service skills.
❖ Strong computer knowledge.
❖ Positive and professional attitude.
8. Physical Demands:
❖ Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds, moving, lifting, or carrying boxes.
❖ Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
❖ Fine Motor Skills.
❖ Visual Acuity.
