About This Position

Position Overview

The Director of Design serves as a design leader and key collaborator within LGE Design Build, driving the creative direction of all design initiatives. This role requires leadership, strategic thinking, and design expertise to ensure projects consistently meet the highest standards of innovation, quality, and client satisfaction. The Director of Design will mentor and inspire the design team, establish and implement design guidelines, and represent the firm’s creative vision to clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Define and implement the firm’s overarching design philosophy and ensure alignment with the firm’s mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute long-term strategies for growth, and innovation.
  • Lead and influence the firm’s creative direction by staying ahead of industry trends, and technologies.

Project

  • Provide creative direction and oversight for all architectural and design projects, from concept through completion.
  • Participate in key project meetings to ensure design excellence and alignment with client objectives.
  • Conduct regular reviews of projects to maintain design quality, innovation, and adherence to established guidelines.

Management and Mentorship

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of architects and designers to achieve their full creative potential.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive design culture that encourages innovation and professional growth.
  • Recruit and retain top design talent, ensuring the team is equipped with the skills and resources to excel.

Client

  • Serve as the primary design advocate and spokesperson for the firm, both internally and externally.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and industry partners.
  • Deliver compelling presentations and articulate design concepts to diverse audiences.

Operational

  • Collaborate with project managers and technical staff to balance creative vision with project budgets, schedules, and constructability.
  • Establish and maintain firm-wide design standards and best practices.
  • Partner with marketing and business development teams to support proposals and pitches with strong design narratives.

Required Attributes

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
  • Licensed Architect (preferred).

Competencies

  • Proven track record of delivering innovative and high-quality design solutions.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Lumion and Adobe Creative Suite.

Reporting

The Director of Design will report directly to the Vice President Architectural Division.

Evaluation

An annual review by the Vice President Architectural Division / Studio Director, peers, and related company staff will be used as part of the evaluation. The above functions of the position will be used as a basis of the evaluation, delivery of projects on time, issues with plans, and interaction of the individual with the TEAM and company as a whole. Evidence of how you demonstrate company values. Lastly, each person’s individual goals will be discussed and how the firm and the job tasks throughout the year can assist in those goals.
