This role sits at the forefront of modern grid transformation, focusing on complex interconnection studies that enable the integration of new generation and large load projects across the Western Interconnection (WECC). The Associate Director will serve as both a deep technical expert and a strategic advisor, guiding clients through evolving interconnection requirements while ensuring high-quality study execution. This position combines hands-on engineering leadership with client-facing consulting, translating highly complex transmission and interconnection challenges into actionable solutions. The role also involves mentoring engineering teams, strengthening delivery frameworks, and elevating technical standards across projects. Working closely with senior leadership, the Associate Director will help shape service offerings and drive innovation in interconnection strategy. Lead and execute complex generation and load interconnection studies across WECC and CAISO territories, ensuring compliance with ISO and utility methodologies and evolving regulatory requirements.
• Oversee interconnection and transmission planning studies, including injection, deliverability, and cluster studies, ensuring technical accuracy and consistency
• Perform model benchmarking and validation for generation and load projects using tools such as PSLF, PSSE, PSCAD, TARA, and ASPEN
• Act as a subject matter expert on WECC interconnection frameworks, staying current with industry trends and regulatory changes
• Review and validate study results, identify risks, and develop strategies to reduce upgrade costs and improve project timelines
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical excellence, ownership, and client-facing capability within the team
• Collaborate with leadership to enhance QA/QC processes, delivery frameworks, and technical standards
• Support client engagement, RFP development, and go-to-market strategies with strong technical and commercial alignment
• Represent the organization in industry forums, conferences, and technical publications
Experienced power systems professional with deep expertise in transmission planning and interconnection studies within WECC/CAISO environments.
• 8+ years of experience in the electric power or energy industry, ideally with exposure to WECC or CAISO systems
• Strong hands-on experience with interconnection studies, including load, generation, and cluster study processes
• Proficiency in power system modeling tools such as PSLF, PSSE, PSCAD, TARA, and ASPEN
• Experience with IBR modeling, EMT studies, and transmission planning methodologies
• Strong understanding of ISO and utility interconnection standards and procedures
• Ability to bridge technical engineering analysis with commercial and strategic decision-making
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical findings for diverse stakeholders
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and mentoring others
