About This Position
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Design Technologist – Design Systems in United States.
This role sits at the intersection of design and engineering, focused on building and scaling the foundational systems that power large, multi-product digital experiences. You will help define how design is translated into production-grade code, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and speed across a complex ecosystem of applications. Working within a mature design systems organization, you will collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and product teams to reduce friction and improve UI quality at scale. The environment is highly cross-functional and deeply technical, with strong emphasis on automation, governance, and system thinking. You will contribute to both strategic evolution and hands-on implementation of components, tokens, and tooling. This is an opportunity to shape how design systems are built, adopted, and maintained across a fast-moving, product-driven organization.
- Own and evolve core design system infrastructure, including repositories, publishing workflows, and component development environments such as Storybook or equivalents
- Improve and scale design token systems (semantic and primitive), theming strategies, and distribution pipelines into product codebases
- Strengthen design-to-code workflows to reduce drift, improve consistency, and embed system guardrails directly into development processes
- Develop and maintain reusable UI components with strong attention to accessibility, responsiveness, and cross-platform consistency
- Build internal tools such as Figma plugins, generators, CLIs, and CI/CD automations to improve team productivity and system adoption
- Define and model system standards in structured formats that can be used for automation, validation, and developer guidance
- Measure system usage, identify friction points, and iterate on tools, documentation, and governance practices based on real-world feedback
- Leverage AI-assisted workflows to accelerate audits, migrations, and repetitive engineering/design tasks while ensuring quality and security
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience across product design and/or front-end engineering, including ownership of a production design system used by multiple teams
- Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in design systems, UI components, tokens, and scalable cross-platform design practices
- Advanced proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern frameworks such as React
- Experience building internal tools (Figma plugins, scripts, CLIs, or automation pipelines) with maintainability and testing considerations
- Deep expertise in Figma for systems work, including components, variants, naming conventions, and library architecture
- Strong understanding of design tokens, theming strategies, and mapping design decisions to implementation
- Ability to design and implement accessible, scalable UI components including states, edge cases, and responsive behavior
- Experience working in shared codebases or monorepos with multi-team collaboration models
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and responsible use of automation in engineering/design processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
Benefits:
- Remote-first flexibility with the ability to work from home or other preferred environments
- Competitive base salary based on location and experience
- Equity grants and eligibility for annual refresh equity awards
- Comprehensive health, medical, and wellness benefits (varies by location)
- Flexible work culture with regular in-person collaboration opportunities
- Opportunity to work on high-scale systems impacting multiple user groups and product surfaces
- Strong emphasis on modern tooling, AI-assisted workflows, and engineering innovation
- Inclusive, design-led environment focused on craft, quality, and continuous improvement.
