About This Position

Description:

The Food Service Manager manages personnel who prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, by following established policies and procedures. He or she supervises the preparation of meals using established menus and ensures that safe and high-quality food service is provided at all times. The Food Service Manager supervises and manages the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, pantry and dining areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the preparation of food following all sanitary regulations and established policies and procedures
  • Approves menus
  • Manages the preparation of meals in accordance with planned menus
  • Supervises the serving meals as necessary
  • Assigns daily scheduled cleaning duties
  • Approves shopping lists for meals
  • Manages shopping and food pick up from vendors
  • Oversees the receipt and inventory of food deliveries
  • Manages food and supply inventories
  • Supervises the inventorying and storing food, supplies, etc., as necessary
  • Manages food storage areas cleaning and arrangement
  • Supervises timely meal service
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of IT & Facilities as needed
  • This is a 24/7/365 operation and as such this position may be required to work mandatory
  • overtime and/or extended shifts for emergencies and operations.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of general work practices and work ethic
  • Current Tuberculosis test (within 30 days of employment)
  • Health Screen Questionnaire signed by authorized Health Care Professional (within 30 days of employment)
  • One to three years experience in related field
  • A genuine desire to expand their skills in the food service
  • Candidate must be capable of critical thinking and possess the ability to resolve problems.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with residents, clients and team members in a positive manner is required.
  • Must understand the inner workings of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Flexible individual displaying accuracy and dependability
  • Ability to follow Benchmark Transitions policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work in a safe manner
  • Skill and experience in management of employees
  • Ability to withstand heat while working around stoves and/or ovens
  • Must be able to supervise and teach correct food preparation methods
  • Able to stand and walk most of the working day and to physically perform other job duties
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and organization in a fast paced environment during all situations
  • Duties may require occasional use of a stool or small ladder
  • Ability to consistently maintain mental and emotional stability and express assertive personality when necessary
  • Ability to effectively write and verbally communicate in English
  • Basic ability to read and interpret documents at a basic level, such as reports, spreadsheets, and instruction and procedure manuals.
  • Basic ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Intermediate computer skills preferred
  • Excellent customer services skills including by person, e-mail or telephone
  • Excellent ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent ability to plan and manage time
  • Proficient in crisis intervention and management, knowledge of behavior management techniques and verbal de-escalation processes
  • Must be able to interact with participants in a responsible and empathetic manner and to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and a background check
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam and health screen
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and be eligible for auto insurance coverage

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A combination of education and relevant work experience in the foodservice industry will be considered. 1-3 years experience minimum. Additional training, certification or credentials may be required to accommodate specific program offerings.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid California Driver’s License (Mandatory) with a clean driving history
  • San Bernardino County Food Handler’s Card

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • General knowledge of workplace and office safety, including ergonomics, and safe sharp instrument handling.
  • General knowledge of state and local traffic laws and driving safety standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee will be required to participate in various physical activities with participants. These activities may include but not be limited to: loading and unloading personal equipment, loading and unloading of passengers, loading and unloading of persons with physical limitations
  • The employee will be regularly required to walk on uneven grounds, muddy and wet ground and stairways
  • The employee frequently is required to use fingers and hands to handle or feel
  • Occasionally lift and carry medium weight (25-50 lbs.)
  • Ability to touch, hear, see and speak corrected to normal range
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
