Job Description

Description:

Advanced Clinical Associate (Pre-Licensure PA Pathway)

Reports To: Medical Director / Supervising Physician

Employment Type: Full-Time (Transitional / Bridge Role)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and medically advanced recent Physician Assistant graduate to join our primary care clinic as an Advanced Clinical Associate. Functioning as a "super medical assistant" and advanced clinical scribe, you will provide top-tier clinical and administrative support to our licensed providers.

This is an ideal bridge position for a recent PA graduate waiting to take the PANCE or waiting for state licensure. You will utilize your extensive medical education to streamline clinic workflow, draft detailed clinical documentation, and enhance patient care. Upon successful licensure and credentialing, this role may transition into a full-time Physician Assistant Provider position within our practice.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Clinical Support: Perform comprehensive patient rooming, including taking detailed chief complaints, thorough histories of present illness (HPI), reviews of systems (ROS), and past medical/family/social histories utilizing your PA-level education.
  • Clinical Scribing & Documentation: Act as an advanced medical scribe. Draft high-quality, highly accurate clinical notes (SOAP format) for the provider’s review, editing, and final signature.
  • Diagnostic & Procedural Assistance: Perform vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, point-of-care testing (strep, flu, urinalysis), and prepare equipment for minor in-office procedures (suturing, joint injections, etc.). Assist the physician during procedures as a sterile or non-sterile hand.
  • Care Coordination: Assist with the management of lab results and imaging reports. Draft patient notification letters and make follow-up calls under the direct guidance of the supervising physician.
  • Patient Education: Reinforce the provider’s treatment plans, explain medication usage (as directed by the provider), and provide lifestyle and preventative care education to patients.
  • Workflow Optimization: Anticipate the needs of the provider by pre-charting upcoming visits, ensuring all recent consult notes and lab results are in the chart prior to the physician entering the room.
  • Disclaimer: As a pre-licensed individual, the Advanced Clinical Associate will not make independent medical diagnoses, prescribe medications, or formulate treatment plans. All clinical decision-making remains the sole responsibility of the licensed supervising provider.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree from an ARC-PA-accredited Physician Assistant program (recent graduates only).
  • Licensure Status: Must be board-eligible (planning to take the PANCE) or have recently passed the PANCE and currently awaiting state licensure.
  • Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

Skills:

  • Exceptional understanding of medical terminology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
  • Strong proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced primary care environment and anticipate provider needs.

Key physical and mental requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 50 pounds of force
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations to support business needs as required

FLSA Classification: Exempt
