Position Overview

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Central Indiana Civil & Environmental Team. This position will work with municipal, county and private clients to plan, design and construct water resources infrastructure. The successful candidate will bring experience developing and managing projects and serving as a trusted advisor to clients and communities.

Key Responsibilities

Client Relations and Business Development:

  • Serves clients and communities within Central and Northern Indiana to build and sustain long-term relationships.
  • Supports business development by identifying opportunities for new water resources projects and works to expand the company’s service offerings within the Area.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and BD to develop proposals and respond to RFPs.
  • Develops a deep understanding of client needs and preferences and translates them into clear project objectives.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations, providing technical insights and project progress updates.
  • Maintains active membership and participation in professional, technical, and/or civic organizations.
  • Actively participates in technical, professional and civic organizations and advances the firm’s reputation by serving on committees and presenting at conferences.

Funding Assistance and Grant Management:

  • Identifies funding opportunities, including grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs from federal, state, and local sources.
  • Develops funding strategies and prepares grant applications to support water and wastewater projects.
  • Maintains relationships with funding agencies and stays informed of emerging opportunities or regulations.
  • Assist clients with navigating funding mechanisms and optimizing financial support.
  • Provide grant compliance and reporting requirement assistance.

Project Management:

  • Takes ownership of the complete project lifecycle, from proposal development to final project delivery.
  • Develops and manages project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Leads multidisciplinary project teams and assigns tasks to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
  • Monitors project progress, identifies potential issues, and implements corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Conducts project performance reviews, including cost control, quality control, and client satisfaction.
  • Ensures compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Technical Expertise and Design Oversight:

  • Leads or assists with the technical design of complex water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater management projects.
  • Oversees the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, permit applications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Reviews and approves project deliverables, ensuring accuracy and technical soundness.
  • Mentors and guide junior engineers and technical staff, promoting knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Stays updated on industry regulations and standards to ensure projects meet current requirements.

Quality Assurance and Risk Mitigation:

  • Implements quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes.
  • Identifies project risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conducts technical reviews of designs and reports, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and IN PE license are required.
  • 15+ years of experience with the design and management of Civil/Environmental engineering projects.
  • Progressive consulting experience in the planning, design and construction of storm water, wastewater and combined sewer collection, pumping and treatment systems.
  • Experience with treatment plant process design and/or wet weather (CSO/SSO) evaluation is a plus.
  • Experience with clients in the Indiana public sector (municipal and county) market.
  • Ability to effectively pursue new projects and develop/maintain relationships with prospects and existing clients.
  • Experience assisting clients with program funding options (user fees, grants, SRF loans process, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members from multiple offices.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to client and project sites as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary range: $122,720 - $141,440 + annual performance bonus.
