Position Overview
The Diesel Truck Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for performing basic maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on diesel-powered trucks and related equipment. This position focuses on developing technical skills while ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant fleet operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Routine Maintenance & Inspections- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM A/B services) on diesel trucks.
- Complete oil changes, fluid checks, belt/hose replacements, and lubrication tasks.
- Inspect vehicles for safety concerns, worn components, leaks, and DOT compliance issues.
- Assist senior technicians with diagnosis and repair of mechanical problems.
- Perform minor repairs on: o Brake systems o Tires & wheels o Batteries and basic electrical systems o Lights and auxiliary components
- Replace filters, sensors, bulbs, belts, and other basic repair items.
- Maintain accurate service records in the fleet maintenance management system.
- Record parts usage, labor times, and inspection results.
- Report equipment issues to supervisors or lead technicians in a timely manner.
- Properly use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain shop cleanliness.
- Practice safe lifting techniques and adhere to lockout/tagout protocols.
- Work under guidance from Diesel Technician II/III or Lead Technicians.
- Participate in ongoing training programs to build technical proficiency.
- Support team members to maintain an efficient and safe shop environment.
Skills and Requirements
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in diesel/automotive repair.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and shop equipment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor.
- Completion of a diesel technology or automotive vocational program.
- Prior experience as an entry-level technician or lube technician.
- Basic understanding of diesel engines, electrical systems, or aftertreatment systems.
- CDL Class A or B.
- Indoor shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and heavy equipment.
- Physical activity including standing, bending, and climbing.
- May occasionally work outdoors depending on shop layout.
Salary
Pay Range: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, and shift assignment.
