Supervisor: Senior Distributed Energy Systems Engineer

Contributors: Chief Development Officer

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Purpose

The Energy Systems Designer will possess a strong proficiency in CAD software, will have a thorough understanding of distributed energy systems (primarily Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage, and Electric Vehicle Charging), and a passion for sustainable energy. This role will involve creating plan sets and performing system performance estimates.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with plan set creation, including drafting site plans and solar array layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Model Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system performance in Helioscope and Aurora.
  • Perform Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS) and EV Charging Station (EVCS) system design and calculations.
  • Maintain Engineering drawing databases and support the engineering process by updating existing and creating new documentation.
  • Work closely with development, project management, and installation teams to ensure system designs are accurate, constructible, and code-compliant.
  • Assist the Engineering Team and other departments with various technical tasks.
  • Handle confidential data professionally.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the management team(s).

Skills & Qualifications

The following list represents the core competencies needed for success in this position.

  • Experience with solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage (BESS) and/or electric vehicle charging (EVCS) system design.
  • Moderate to advanced AutoCAD 2D drafting abilities.
  • Proficient in Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Good communication, teamwork and problem solving skills.
  • Solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Action & Results Focus – initiating tasks and focusing on accomplishment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to be coached and mentored.

Desirable Skills (not required):

  • Experience with Aurora, Helioscope and/or Energy Toolbase.
  • Experience with Sketchup.
  • Experience with solar photovoltaic (PV) installation and/or general construction.
  • Experience operating drones and maintenance skills. Holding a drone’s pilot license is a plus.
  • Familiarity with National Electric Code (NEC) and other building codes.

Education & Experience:

  • High School or GED, some college(s) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years Drafting/Engineering experience as an individual contributor.
