GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Pharmacy Operations Supervisor – Outpatient is responsible for managing the daily operations and clinical services of the CHKD Outpatient Pharmacy retail pharmacy services. The Pharmacy Operations Supervisor – Outpatient retains 24-hour responsibility but may utilize staff to operationalize activities. This position is expected to independently carry out assigned responsibilities but seeks guidance from the director and/or senior leadership given unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation of policy/practice. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the Pharmacist-In-Charge of record for the Outpatient Pharmacy for the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.

Maintains overall responsibility for the daily planning, work scheduling and coordination, and operational performance of the Outpatient Pharmacy.

Provides administrative, regulatory, and medication safety leadership and oversight.

Coordinates and supervises activities to include, but not limited to, adherence to regulatory requirements, effective staffing levels to meet organizational demands, staff competence, and medication safety.

Oversees finances, budgetary adherence, and annual budget preparation, and monitors applicable financial metrics for services provided.

Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.

Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required Licenses and/or Certifications
-
Registered Pharmacist (RPh) with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy required at the time of hire.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-
Required Education and Experience
-
Bachelor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharmacy required at the time of hire.
-
Three or more years of directly related and progressively responsible experience in community, retail, ambulatory pharmacy, or health-system related required.
-
At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
-
Continuous certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, training, educational and application requirements is required during employment.

Preferred Education and Experience
-
One year of experience in a supervisory and/or management capacity preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-
General knowledge of business and finance processes including the ability to read and interpret financial statements such as profit and loss statements.

Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
-
Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.

Robust verbal, written and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.

Solid analytical skills to ensure medication is ordered and prepared in accordance with professional standards and practices.

Possess critical thinking skills to determine when to consult and advise physicians and patients as to the use of medications and their possible side effects.

Proven customer support skills with a focus on customer quality customer service.

Highly motivated, enthusiastic leader who takes initiative.

Ability to resolve patient issues quickly and creatively to improve customer satisfaction.

Possesses skills necessary to direct the actions of team members and explain hospital and department policies and procedure and communicate effectively with other professionals.

Ability to deescalate team members issues and/or concerns quickly and creatively to improve overall morale.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services
