Role Overview:
The Junior Casework Support Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Casework team in delivering timely, accurate, and compassionate financial assistance to individuals and families in need. This position offers hands-on experience in client service, nonprofit administration, and data management, while providing exposure to Canada’s social support systems.
This role is particularly impactful in supporting vulnerable populations, including immigrant, refugee, and ethnocultural seniors who often face barriers such as language limitations, financial insecurity, and social isolation. The Assistant will help bridge these gaps by facilitating access to essential support services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with intake and initial review of Zakat applications.
- Answer and respond to incoming calls, voicemails, and emails in a timely manner.
- Create new cases in Zoho CRM and conduct intake calls for new applicants.
- Request and collect required documents to complete applications.
- Assign new applications to caseworkers and flag duplicates to improve workflow efficiency.
- Communicate with applicants to provide guidance and collect missing information.
- Support caseworkers in maintaining documentation, case notes, and basic summaries.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with organizational privacy protocols.
- Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Casework Supervisor.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary student or recent graduate in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Comfortable working with databases/CRM systems (Zoho experience an asset)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Interest in nonprofit work, social services, or community development
- Cultural competency and sensitivity when working with diverse communities
- English required; French or Arabic are considered an asset

Eligibility
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- As per section 13.1(a) of the Articles of Agreement, youth hired for a Canada Summer Jobs-funded job cannot displace or replace existing employees or volunteers, employees that have been laid-off and are awaiting recall, employees absent due to an industrial dispute, employees on vacation, or employees on maternity or parental leave.
