About This Position

Description:

Company Overview:

Cowboy Maloney LLC is a regional appliance, electronics, furniture, and bedding retailer with 13 locations across Mississippi. With retail, warehouse, and delivery/installation operations, the company is strengthening financial controls and modernizing systems to support scalable growth.

Position Overview:

Cowboy Maloney LLC is hiring a hands-on Senior Accountant to own the general ledger and core accounting activities across 13 locations. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Accounting, this role drives an accurate month-end close, clean reconciliations, and reliable financial reporting used by leadership to run the business.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger & Month-End Close:

  • Own the general ledger across 13 locations, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid/fixed-asset activity, and period-end adjustments.
  • Lead month-end close and prepare monthly financial statements; investigate variances and ensure balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled.
  • Manage AP and AR workflows (coding, approvals, aging, collections) and resolve vendor/customer discrepancies in partnership with store and operations teams.
  • Reconcile daily sales/POS activity to the general ledger by location and investigate/clear discrepancies promptly.

Payroll & Commission Support:

  • Support payroll and commissioned sales calculations; reconcile payroll-related accounts to the general ledger and maintain required support.
  • Bank Reconciliations & Cash Management:
  • Complete bank, credit card, and cash reconciliations; research reconciling items and escalate material issues.

Process Improvement & Systems:

  • Lead the accounting workstream for the new ERP implementation, including requirements gathering, chart-of-accounts and financial reporting design, data mapping/cleansing, UAT, and go-live readiness; develop training and post-launch support to drive adoption.
  • Improve and streamline accounting workflows, reporting templates, and system utilization as the company modernizes.
  • Maintain strong controls and GAAP compliance; support audit and year-end requests with clear documentation.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3–5 years of full-cycle accounting experience (multi-location retail/service preferred); CPA progress is a plus.
  • Experience with commissioned payroll calculations or multi-site retail operations is a plus.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong technical accounting skills with a solid understanding of GAAP principles and general ledger mechanics.
  • High attention to detail with a zero-tolerance mindset for unresolved reconciling items or unexplained variances.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining accuracy and composure.

What Success Looks Like:

  • The general ledger is always reconciled and audit-ready with no stale or unexplained balances.
  • Month-end close is consistently on time, with accurate payroll support and minimal rework.
  • The Director of Finance & Accounting spends time on analysis, budgeting, and strategy instead of cleaning up accounting entries or reconciling discrepancies.

Why This Role:

  • This is a high-ownership role supporting a 13-location business where leadership relies on timely, accurate financials. You will have direct visibility, meaningful impact, and the opportunity to improve processes as the company modernizes.
