We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Project Engineer to lead and support the design, development, testing, and certification of advanced Extravehicular Activity (EVA) spacesuit systems. This role requires deep domain expertise in life support systems, electro-mechanical hardware, and NASA test protocols. The Project Engineer will serve as a technical authority, mentor junior engineers, and provide strategic guidance across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for EVA spacesuit systems, guiding design, development, and integration efforts.
  • Lead the planning and execution of complex test campaigns, including test design, hazard analysis, instrumentation selection, and data analysis.
  • Author and review critical documentation such as test plans, procedures, hazard analyses, and certification packages.
  • Collaborate with NASA test facilities and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with program goals and technical requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues in development and flight hardware.
  • Provide technical mentorship and oversight to junior engineers and project teams.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, risk assessments, and technology road mapping for crew systems and suit projects

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or related field); advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in EVA spacesuit systems or life support hardware development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical and electrical system design, test engineering, and system integration.
  • Strong knowledge of NASA test processes, safety protocols, and certification standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Requisition Preferences:

  • Experience with oxygen systems, thermal control systems, or pressure garment components.
  • Proficiency with LabView, data acquisition systems, and test automation tools.
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical components such as pumps, valves, sensors, and heating elements.
  • Prior experience supporting Artemis, ISS, or commercial EVA programs.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
