About This Position

Position Description: The Assistant Coordinator of Correctional Education serves in cooperation with the Coordinator of Correctional Education and the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) to plan and coordinate post-secondary programming, events and activities associated with the College's Building Academic Skills in Correctional Settings (BASICS) program. This position will work with justice-involved students primarily located at the Larned State Correctional Facility (LSCF) while also supporting Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) students as required. This position will provide advising information and guidance suitable to the attainment of career technical education and post-secondary academic education. Position Responsibilities: 40.00% - Assist in coordination of educational services for residents at the LSCF and ECF Facilities: These duties include but not limited to:
* Market resident educational opportunities available and recruit students while promoting Career Technical Education and Academic offerings.
* Identify and implement academic and career technical education offerings and programs to be delivered via a variety of mediums to include: face-to-face, Go To Meeting, online offerings and/or other alternative technologies
*Organize and offer student services: assessment, advisement & enrollment
*Assist in coordination of participant selection with correctional facility contacts
*Assist in the planning and coordination of recognition ceremonies
*Assist with data collection and ensure that requested reports are completed within established deadlines
*Provide Informational meetings to Correctional facility students and staff as needed to support program operations and growth.
35.00% - Provide advisement services and assist in the management of the College's Corrections program, duties not limited to:
*Advise students in identifying basic skills and/or developmental learning needs, assisting with the selection of a program study and course enrollment; recruiting student, meet with each student once every 8-10 weeks for progress monitoring, updates, and support to ensure retention and completion.
* Encourage students to apply for available scholarships, and advise on third-party support options.
* Serve as a liaison between residents and the college ancillary departments assisting in the completion of Financial Aid and scholarship applications, admissions, and the business office.
5.00% - Provide feedback to the Coordinator of Correctional Education and the Executive Director of Healthcare and Public Service Education specific to opportunities and/or challenges needing to be addressed with the Kansas Department of Corrections; assist in the development of RFP applications for contractual services with KDOC; complete local and state reports as requested. 5.00% - Cooperatively work with the Coordinator of Adult Education and Adult Education staff to ensure successful transition of students into career technical education and post-secondary education programming. 5.00% - Review offender's Education Case Plan (ECP) for interests and skills; coordinate residents access to educational programs with facility staff. 5.00% - Stay abreast of up-to-date labor information, support career technical training programs and employment opportunities appropriate for offenders and maintain employer relations to support offender employment 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Knowledge and awareness of partnerships and potential opportunities. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Education - (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. Experience - Six months to two years of similar or related experience. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Other Skills - Bachelor's degree preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings. Wages/Other:

The salaried rate for this position is $43,472.57 to $48,550.17.

Job Advertisement: Barton Community College is seeking a full-time Assistant Coordinator of Correctional Education Services to support its partnership with the Kansas Department of Corrections. The Assistant Coordinator will work closely with the Coordinator of Correctional Education as one of the Colleges primary contacts for programs at Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) and Larned State Correctional Facility (LSCF). This role involves planning and coordinating educational programming and providing advisement for students pursuing post-secondary academic and career technical education. The primary work location will be either at Larned or Ellsworth. Applicants should have 6 months - 2 years of related experience. Bachelors degree preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with strong organizational and communication skills, with a history demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively and maintaining strong partnerships.
