Multi‑Craft Mechanic supports, maintains, and improves equipment within our aluminum extrusion facility. This role requires a skilled technician with strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting abilities. The ideal candidate understands the fast‑paced nature of extrusion operations and can ensure maximum uptime, safety, and production efficiency across all equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on all extrusion equipment, including:
    • Extrusion presses
    • Billet heaters
    • Pullers and stretchers
    • Die ovens
    • Aging ovens
    • Cooling systems, handling systems, and saws
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues with minimal downtime.
  • Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.

Installation & Upgrades

  • Assist with installation, setup, and alignment of new machinery or system modifications.
  • Support upgrades to automation, controls, guarding, and mechanical systems.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all plant safety policies, ensuring proper lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain documentation of work performed, including PM logs, parts usage, and repair notes.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with operators, maintenance leadership, and engineering to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures, spare parts inventory, and process efficiency.
  • Help maintain accurate parts usage and communicate needs for replenishment or upgrades.

Technical Skills

  • Troubleshoot and work with:
    • Hydraulics: pumps, valves, cylinders, pressure systems
    • Pneumatics: actuators, solenoids, air systems
    • Electrical systems up to 480V (motors, contactors, sensors)
    • Mechanical components: bearings, gearboxes, chains, conveyors, drive systems
  • Able to interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial environment; extrusion experience preferred.
  • Multi‑craft skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and respond quickly to breakdowns.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems for PM tasks and reporting.
  • Ability to lift, climb, and work in industrial conditions as required.
