Position: Skilled Laborer/ Driver

Travel: Open to Travel

Location: Toano, VA

Pay: $20.00/hr- $25.00/hr (based on experience)

We are currently seeking a Skilled Laborer/ Driver to join our Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. team in Toano, VA. Reporting to direct field supervision, the Skilled Laborer/ Driver is responsible for all project related tasks requested with our various crews. This includes but is not limited to carrying materials and heavy objects, stacking materials, cleaning of job site, setting cones and assisting with maintenance of traffic, assisting with lane closures, chipping concrete, and driving company vehicles. This position works along with the entire Project Team to support the completion of assigned construction tasks and ensures all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines. NIGHT SHIFT WORK WILL BE A PART OF THE ROLE, MUST BE ABLE TO SWITCH SHIFTS AS NEEDED.

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Wagman Heavy Civil Inc’s core competencies include design-build, infrastructure, marine construction, modified concrete, grooving and grinding and geotechnical construction services.

Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED preferred; can be replaced with relevant work experience
  • Reliable transportation AND A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE is required
  • Experience in Heavy Highway and/or bridge construction preferred
  • Familiar with paving, concrete, highway, MOT and/or bridge construction and all other highway construction scopes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented

Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Carry, load, unload and stack materials.
  • Lay out material and assist experienced crew members.
  • Dig with pick and shovel.
  • Assist with maintenance of traffic to include but not limited to setting out and picking up cones, assisting with lane closures, driving TMA/crash trucks, flagging.
  • Climb embankments and ladders to carry material to various work sites on project as needed.
  • Jackhammer and saw cut concrete.
  • Clean up project site of debris.
  • Drive company vehicles as needed

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds from ground level to waist level and 30 pounds to above shoulder level throughout a scheduled work shift.
  • Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift.
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel and crawl.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot and humid weather.
  • Position requires acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing.
  • It also requires the ability to reach, lift and perform work above shoulder height—and the ability to work on uneven surfaces and in confined spaces.
