The Sr. Director, Actuarial will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the actuarial function within the Employee Benefits business. This role focuses on people leadership, process development, and ensuring high-quality actuarial work across pricing, experience studies, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will partner with Product, Finance, ERM, Accounting, Underwriting, and Legal teams to support profitable growth and operational excellence. The Sr. Director will drive scalability, standardization, and governance across actuarial operations while mentoring and developing actuarial staff. This role offers the opportunity to influence business strategy, enhance operational effectiveness, and shape the future of a growing Employee Benefits product suite.
- Lead actuarial teams supporting Disability, Paid Family Leave, and Paid Leave products, including pricing, in-force management, and experience analysis.
- Set priorities, performance expectations, and career development paths for actuaries and analysts, fostering a strong leadership bench.
- Oversee quarterly valuation processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of Statutory, GAAP, and Tax reporting.
- Serve as primary actuarial lead for audits, regulatory reviews, and internal governance initiatives, ensuring readiness and credibility.
- Implement and maintain robust actuarial processes, controls, and documentation standards, adhering to Actuarial Standards of Practice.
- Provide actionable actuarial insight to cross-functional partners in Product, ERM, Finance, Underwriting, and Government Affairs.
- Design and optimize scalable processes, identify automation opportunities, and enhance the actuarial operating model to support growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field; Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
- 8+ years of actuarial experience with at least 4 years in managerial roles, preferably within Employee Benefits or related products.
- Proven leadership of actuarial teams managing complex deliverables across reporting cycles.
- Strong knowledge of Statutory, GAAP, and Tax reporting frameworks.
- Demonstrated success supporting audits, regulatory reviews, and governance routines.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and advise senior leaders.
- Strong strategic thinking, process improvement, and project management capabilities.
- Ability to mentor and develop high-performing actuarial staff in a collaborative environment.
- Competitive salary range of $155,000 - $230,000 plus performance-based incentives.
