Purpose
A Paralegal assists and provides a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in the firm’s practice of representing financial institutions in bankruptcy, foreclosure, residential real estate or mortgage law. A Paralegal position is not exempt from overtime laws.
Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities
Assisting attorneys in the representation of clients in litigation including, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Support one or more litigation attorneys to ensure cases progress to resolution.
- Draft pleadings, motions, notices and other court filings for attorney review.
- Draft written discovery, including but not limited to Request for Production, Interrogatories, Request for Admission as well as proposed responses for attorney review.
- Request documents from clients to respond to written discovery.
- Analyze incoming mail, court filings, and other communications to coordinate with attorney on calendaring, responses and case strategy.
- Update and manage attorney calendar and case dockets to ensure proper reminders scheduled and hearings covered.
- File pleadings and/or documents with the courts.
- Prepare table of contents and/or table of authorities in Word documents; edit documents for formatting requirements and/or typographical errors.
- Monitor litigation deadlines to ensure compliance.
- Draft correspondences to borrowers, clerks, judge, clients, etc. for attorney review.
- Update client systems for assigned matters.
- Ensure case management system is updated and organized
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple cases.
- Assist with other duties and special projects as needed
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma
- At least 2 years’ experience working as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal
- Paralegal certificate a plus but not required.
- Thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques and legal terminology.
- In depth knowledge of government regulations.
- Relevant computer knowledge and experience.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent planning and organizing skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent research, analytical, critical thinking skills.
