Job Description

Director, Data and AI Engineering

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Director, Data and AI Engineering in United States.

This is a high-impact hybrid leadership role sitting at the intersection of data engineering, AI/ML innovation, and platform architecture. You will define and scale the core data infrastructure and AI capabilities powering a real-time, multilingual communication platform used globally. The role combines strategic ownership of the modern data stack with hands-on development of LLM-based and agentic AI solutions. You will lead a small but high-performing engineering team while shaping how data is ingested, modeled, and transformed into actionable intelligence. Working closely with product and technical leadership, you will enable scalable analytics, automation, and AI-driven features that directly improve operational efficiency and customer experience. This position is ideal for a builder who thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys solving complex, system-level problems.

Accountabilities:
  • Own the end-to-end data architecture and strategy, including ingestion, transformation, warehousing, and analytics using tools such as Fivetran, dbt, and Snowflake, while ensuring data quality, governance, and scalability across the organization.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 3–5 data and AI engineers, setting priorities, managing performance, and building a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
  • Drive the design and implementation of AI/ML solutions, including LLM integrations, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation use cases such as QA, routing, and contextual processing.
  • Develop and maintain analytics and BI infrastructure, enabling reliable reporting, dashboards, and data-driven decision-making across business teams.
  • Oversee operational excellence across data and AI systems, optimizing performance, managing infrastructure costs, and enforcing best practices in CI/CD, testing, version control, and documentation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or ML engineering, including at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran (or similar ELT tools), Python, SQL, AWS Lambda, and LLM APIs (AWS Bedrock, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI).
  • Experience building and deploying AI/ML or LLM-powered systems in production environments, with familiarity in agentic frameworks and modern AI architectures considered a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams, manage hiring and performance, and operate in fast-paced, decentralized environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business impact and collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with modern data and AI ecosystem tools (Airflow, vector databases, BI tools, cloud infrastructure) is highly valued.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with experience and market standards
  • Flexible work environment with hybrid or remote collaboration options
  • Opportunity to lead and shape high-impact AI and data initiatives
  • Exposure to cutting-edge AI/ML technologies and modern data stack tools
  • Collaborative, mission-driven engineering culture focused on innovation
  • Professional growth opportunities within a scaling technical organization.
