About This Position

Description:

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) serves as the national advocate to mitigate gambling-related harm. Our vision is to advance well-being by minimizing harm from problem gambling.

Since 1972, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has led state and national stakeholders in developing comprehensive policies and programs for all affected by problem gambling. From its outset, NCPG established two guiding principles that remain in effect today: that the organization advocates for those affected by problem gambling and takes no position for or against legalized gambling.

NCPG’s vision is to advance well-being by minimizing harm from gambling problems. Its mission is to lead awareness and advocacy efforts to reduce gambling harm. Guided by its core values of Neutrality, Collaboration, Respect, and Credibility, NCPG works with national and global companies in gambling and professional sports, prevention and health providers, government, and the recovery community.

Position Summary:

This role plays a key part in strengthening operational infrastructure as NCPG continues to expand its national impact. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Sr. Finance & Operations Manager oversees outsourced accounting and HR vendors, manages financial processes, supports grant compliance, and ensures administrative systems are optimized for growth and sustainability.

This senior-level role partners closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to ensure strong financial stewardship, operational efficiency, and compliance in support of NCPG’s mission.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who brings both strategic insight and practical execution across finance, operations, and organizational infrastructure.

This position is fully remote within the United States and requires limited travel (two in-person events annually).

Responsibilities Include:

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership and the Board of Directors in partnership with the part-time outsourced accounting vendor.

· Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense management.

· Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary liaison with external accounting providers, auditors, and financial consultants.

· Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Operations & Administration

· Oversee organizational operations, policies, and internal controls to ensure efficiency and compliance.

· Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and operational systems.

· Support grant administration and reporting in collaboration with program staff.

· Maintain and improve financial and operational processes, documentation, and systems.

Human Resources Administration

· Serve as primary internal HR administrator in coordination with external HR consulting partners.

· Manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes.

· Working with third-party vendors, oversee payroll processing, benefits, and retirement plan administration, including annual benefit renewals and audit requirements.

· Maintain and update NCPG’s employee handbook and all employee policies in partnership with third-party consultants.

· Manage and administer all paid and unpaid leave and related compliance documentation.

Strategic & Leadership Support

· Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director on financial and operational strategy.

· Support Board committees as needed, including finance and audit-related activities.

· Provide financial analysis and insights to support organizational planning and decision-making.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).

· 7+ years of progressive experience in finance and operations, ideally within a nonprofit organization.

· Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.

· Experience managing audits, grants, and compliance requirements.

· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion.

· Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

· High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.

· Comfortable working in a team environment with remote coworkers and partners.
