Job Summary

The Staff I, Youth Sports position is responsible for providing a fun and positive learning environment for youth participants in sports programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 14 years of age or older.

The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check, and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.

Preferred but not required:

  • Direct experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of sports or the desire to learn.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.

Essential Functions

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive.   • Ready sites 15 minutes prior to the program’s scheduled start time.
  • Maintain control of games and instruction sessions.
  • Assist players in an emergency such as illness or injury.
  • Set a good example for players and others, including appropriate dress, cleanliness, punctuality, and good sportsmanship.
  • Assist in cleaning up the sites after games.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Sports and the skills required to play them.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity; accept guidance willingly.
  • Maintain good relations with coaches, players, parents, and staff.
  • Learn new activities and tasks; accept and adapt to change.

Working Conditions and Aptitudes

  • Duties are performed indoors and outdoors, including working in inclement weather, and extreme temperatures.
  • Duties are primarily performed in a public setting, requiring constant interaction with a variety of people.
  • Work effectively with crowds, uncooperative participants during difficult situations, emergency response, and periods of continuous demand.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on department needs.
  • This position is ineligible for remote work. Essential duties cannot be completed without being physically present.

Physical Requirements

  • Equal or less than 25% | Focus on a computer screen.
  • Equal or less than 25% | Sitting.
  • Equal or less than 75% | Standing, walking, bending, and other physical exertion.
  • Equal or less than 50% | Pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
  • Equal or less than 25% | Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted.
