Mechanic
As a Mechanic at Power Drive Supply, you will play a vital role in the daily operation of our equipment business. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning used heavy equipment (such as construction machinery, agricultural equipment, or similar) to meet our company's high-quality standards, appear professional and appealing, and be ready for sale or delivery in the shortest possible time. This role focuses on efficient repairs while strictly controlling costs to protect gross margins and ensure profitability. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically proficient across multiple systems, and committed to safety and organization in a fast-paced shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspections: Inspect incoming equipment thoroughly to identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and cosmetic issues; estimate required repair time, parts costs, and overall feasibility.
- Inventory: Generate a work order for every incoming piece of equipment or inventory item, linking it to the unique inventory ID number for complete traceability from intake through repairs to final sale.
- Repairs: Perform repairs and maintenance on key systems—including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical components, undercarriage, and more—based on diagnostic results and in full compliance with company quality standards.
- Coordination: Coordinate with the Foreman on any major repairs that exceed budgeted cost thresholds or could impact purchase/acceptance decisions, providing clear recommendations and updates.
- Detailing: Clean, detail, and cosmetically enhance equipment to sale-ready conditions, including washing, paint touch-ups, applying decals, performing basic bodywork, and other finishing tasks to maximize customer appeal.
- Shop Maintenance: Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment, including proper tool management, parts inventory control, responsible waste disposal, and full adherence to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Documentation: Document all work comprehensively in the company system via work orders, recording repairs performed, parts used, labor hours, and inventory ID for accurate costing, inventory tracking, and warranty support; assist with basic field service tasks or delivery preparation as needed (e.g., pre-delivery inspections, loading/unloading equipment).
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a mechanic working on heavy equipment, diesel machinery, or similar vehicles (experience with used/reconditioned equipment preferred).
- Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and undercarriage systems.
- Familiarity with basic bodywork, painting, and detailing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality and cost control.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Physical ability to lift heavy parts, work in various positions, and handle tools/equipment safely.
- Valid driver's license
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training or certifications (e.g., ASE, manufacturer-specific) highly desirable.
Benefits
- Competitive wages starting at $22/hr, based on experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including full health, vision, and dental insurance for employees and their families.
- Paid Time Off (PTO) to support a healthy work-life balance.
- Opportunities for professional development and continuing education to advance your career.
- A supportive and collaborative work environment focused on teamwork and innovation.
