Digital Literacy Lab Specialist
The American Electric & Power Foundation Digital Literacy Lab (DLL) is a space were people of all ages will engage in the creation of information, problem solving and learning experiences that foster 21st Century skills needed to compete on a global scale. The DLL offers resources to assist children, youth and families in developing critical thinking skills, literacy and experience in the disciplines of math, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to help bridge the digital divide. In this space, the Tulsa community will be exposed to STEM career paths and learning opportunities, participate in conversations about community endeavors and needs, and help to achieve the library’s goals of supporting the community and promoting lifelong learning.
The Digital Literacy Lab (DLL) Specialist is a proactive self-starter who embraces technology and is a passionate advocate for guiding and instructing customers of all ages in how to utilize STEM-based technology in an effort to learn new skills and create information. This person has an understanding of digital literacy and how it can be used to achieve success and has a proven history of excellent customer service, strong instruction, communication, and public speaking skills. Also, the DLL Specialist has the ability to understand the needs of the library customers and connect them to the right resource or service at the right time.

Salary: $21.10/hr.
Status: Full Time
Schedule:
Monday 8:30am - 5pm
Tuesday 8:30am - 5pm
Wednesday 8:30am - 5pm
Thursday 11pm - 8pm
Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm
Every 3rd Saturday 8:30am - 5pm
Some Key Responsibilities Include
- Works closely with the Innovation and Creation Coordinator to plan, develop, promote, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of learning experiences, programs, and activities offered through the Digital Literacy Lab.
- Coordinate programs and develops learning experiences for diverse audiences (e.g. children, young adults, adults, families, and other groups) in anticipation of or response to customer interest or needs.
- Identify community needs and coordinates appropriate programs and learning experiences.
- Secure and schedule presenters and educators for DLL activities and programs.
- Effectively utilize the appropriate software, hardware, and other equipment for programs, workshops, and other DLL activities.
- Work with library’s IT Department to maintain and operate DLL hardware, software, and equipment.
- Work with the library’s Marketing and Communications Department and social media coordinator to develop and maintain community relations; coordinates marketing and promotion of the DLL including community information efforts to enhance the visibility of the DLL and the library; publicize programs and services through appropriate media, community groups, and newsletters.
- Works collaboratively with the Maker Space Specialist to align the customer experience in the DLL and Maker Space.
- Promote DLL services and resources to: Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance and local educators; non-profit and corporate communities; community and learning-driven student organizations.
- Utilize and promote all library resources and materials relative to DLL programming and resources, effectively incorporating them into DLL activities.
- Rotate throughout Central Library Zones as scheduled, helping customers at various service points.
- Assist and train library customers in utilizing self-service features for selecting and locating library materials, conducting research, and discovering reference information for regular or specialized collections.
- Register and issue library cards, checks materials in and out at the point of need, and routes returned materials to proper locations.
- Actively supports TCCL's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, and the Library's Be All In culture.
- Perform other duties as instructed and assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented and collaborative environment as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and teams, including maintaining effective relationships with community partners and library co-workers.
- Strong research and problem solving skills.
- Ability to navigate and perform tasks on a variety of technical software, including Microsoft Office and Apple products.
- Some knowledge of software and equipment for video editing, photography, graphic design, computer coding, robotics, audio engineering, web design, and digital conversion.
- Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, digital photography equipment, audio engineering & recording equipment, smart phones, mobile devices, computer hardware and software, and new databases and consumer devices including (and not limited to) e-readers, tablets and personal computers.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors’ degree required in the areas of education, or technology, or related field.
- One or more years of experience facilitating user training in a technical environment.
- Experience in developing and implementing successful programs and learning experiences and in evaluating their effectiveness.
- Demonstrated experience in providing quality customer service.
- Bilingual English - Spanish preferred.
- Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.
Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions
Requires occasional stooping or bending; occasional light lifting (up to 20 pounds) may be required; frequent use of office equipment as well as long periods of sitting, standing, or walking as needed.
Work is typically conducted indoors with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions; may have occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
