Network Engineer II
Overview
Tech(x) is seeking a highly motivated Network Engineer / Tactical Network Integration Engineer to support the design, configuration, integration, and testing of modern tactical network systems in laboratory and operational environments. This position supports Army network modernization initiatives and requires hands-on experience with physical and virtual test environments, RF and MANET networking, Software Defined Networking (SDN), secure communications, and interoperability testing across multiple platforms and echelons.
The ideal candidate will support system-of-systems analysis, network test events, requirements reviews, and technical evaluations while contributing to mission command capabilities that support Army and DoD operational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Build, configure, and maintain laboratory-based physical and virtual network test environments supporting tactical network integration.
- Participate in Soldier Touch Points (STP) and other large-scale test and evaluation activities supporting Army network modernization.
- Support Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) events and operational exercises.
- Configure and evaluate Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions supporting backhaul transport across LEO, MEO, GEO, and BLOS communications paths.
- Configure and support NGC2 voice communications, including Instant Connect Enterprise (ICE) on Nett Warrior End User Devices supporting the ATAK application.
- Design, configure, and troubleshoot RF MANET networks using single-channel and dual-channel radios.
- Evaluate and test mission command software routing capabilities including CoT, VMF, and PLI traffic.
- Lead systems architecture and integration efforts, supporting solution design, interoperability, and integration across platforms and operational echelons.
- Configure and sustain SDN test bed infrastructure, including:
- VMware virtual infrastructure
- Dell server
- Cisco networking equipment
- Mission command systems
- BFT simulation environments
- RF modeling and simulation tools
- Utilize HAIPE devices including TACLANEs, KIVs, and KG devices to enable secure Army network communications.
- Support technical evaluations, readiness reviews, and test planning activities.
- Review technical documentation and requirements packages from contractors and government stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering, program management, and operational teams to ensure mission success.
- All other duties assigned.
- Demonstrated experience supporting tactical network integration, communications engineering, or systems testing within a DoD or Army environment.
- Knowledge of network test planning, system verification, validation, and readiness review processes.
- Experience with physical and virtual laboratory network environments, including VMware infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience configuring Cisco network equipment and enterprise network architectures.
- Knowledge of RF communications, MANET networking, and tactical radio integration.
- Familiarity with ATAK, Nett Warrior, and mission command systems.
- Understanding of Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies and transport architectures including BLOS, LEO, MEO, and GEO communications.
- Experience reviewing technical documentation and system requirements packages.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional engineering and program management teams.
- Experience supporting Army modernization initiatives, including NGC2, Project Convergence, or Network Integration Events.
- Experience with mission command platforms such as MMC-S.
- Familiarity with CoT, VMF, and PLI traffic routing and interoperability.
- Experience with BFT simulation environments and RF modeling/simulation tools.
- Knowledge of secure communications equipment, including TACLANEs, KIVs, and KG devices.
Clearance:
- DoD secret level clearance.
Education & Experience:
- 2 -7 years of network engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
- Equivalent military training or technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience supporting tactical network engineering, integration, or communications systems in a DoD environment.
Location:
- Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.
- Monday-Friday onsite.
Travel:
Some travel.
Physical Requirements
