About This Position
Description:
The primary role is to provide education, marketing, and sales of premium vision corrective services to patients before they consult with the physician. Provide accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations. Maintain patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. Assist Ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions, such as patient workups and special testing. May administer eye medications, instruct the patient in the care and treatment of eye conditions, apply dressings to the eye, and assist with in-office lasers and procedures.
- Conduct pre-consultation sessions with patients to explain the benefits and options of premium vision corrective services, including advanced lenses, laser treatments, and other corrective procedures.
- Answer patient questions and provide detailed information to ensure patients understand their options and the value of premium services.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote premium vision corrective services within the practice.
- Identify and engage potential candidates for premium packages through patient interactions and consultations.
- Present premium service packages to patients compellingly and professionally, emphasizing the benefits and long-term value.
- Achieve sales targets and goals for premium vision corrective services as set by the practice.
- Gather and record detailed patient history and data relevant to vision corrective services.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure a seamless transition from education and sales to physician consultation and treatment.
- Provide follow-up support to patients who have purchased premium packages, ensuring they have all the necessary information for their procedure.
- Address any concerns or questions patients may have post-consultation to maintain high levels of patient satisfaction.
- Stay current with advancements in vision corrective technologies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities provided by the practice.
- Assist in training new staff members on promoting and educating premium services.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Quickly and accurately summarizes and documents what the Ophthalmologist says during an examination, including but not limited to the proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment, and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
- Maintains an awareness of the patient’s verbal communication when the Ophthalmologist is providing instructions, as it may necessitate the scribe repeating information, and/or providing patient education materials for the patient to review at home.
- Be a mentor to other technicians and be able to help train other newer technicians.
- Ensure clinic flow and prioritize technician duties.
- Other duties as required.
- Strong knowledge of vision corrective procedures and technologies.
- Proven experience in patient education and sales, preferably within a medical or ophthalmic practice.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, and the ability to convey ideas and information verbally and in writing
- Ability to explain complex medical information in a clear and understandable manner.
- Proficient with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office products, G-suite environment.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ophthalmic setting.
