About This Position

Job Purpose

The process engineer will design, implement, and optimize industrial processes for producing and packaging chemicals, focusing on safety, efficiency, quality, and cost reduction. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting operational issues, conducting simulations and analyses, developing safety protocols, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring regulatory compliance to improve production yields, throughput, and product quality. The process engineer will accomplish their duties by leading process improvement projects, developing maintenance and operations SOPs, and maintaining engineering drawings of facilities, production lines, power distribution, P&IDs, and other duties as required. Projects can involve processes, equipment, facilities, data management systems, product information, and others that support operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage Projects – define deliverables, tracking, communications, reporting, return on investment analysis, evaluation of operational need, presentations, capital expense requests, execute capital projects, equipment integration, and project review.
  • R&D
  • Research and design manufacturing and material handling processes, production lines/equipment, and systems.
  • Understand product requirements and help with product design as needed.
  • Establish manufacturing standards.
  • Ensure project deliverables follow government regulations.
  • Conduct business case analysis to determine the feasibility of projects.
  • Process Design and Optimization – Develop and refine chemical manufacturing and packaging processes from raw materials to final products, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and meet production goals and quality standards.
  • Process Improvement – Initiate and lead projects aimed at reducing costs, minimizing waste, improving yields, and increasing throughput by implementing new technologies or optimizing existing ones.
  • Troubleshooting and Data Analysis – Investigate process deviations, analyze data and equipment trends, and perform root cause analysis to resolve operational issues and prevent future occurrences. Pull, scrub, organize, and analyze data that is necessary for a project. Safety and Compliance – Develop and implement process safety protocols, conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews, and ensure that all processes comply with relevant industry standards, environmental regulations, and corporate policies.
  • Equipment and System Management – Design new equipment, conduct process and equipment design reviews, and provide technical guidance on the operation and maintenance of process equipment.
  • Engineering Documentation – Create, modify, and control 2D drawings, 3D models, pdf's, MS Office files, pictures, videos, etc. necessary to ensure successful projects, maintenance programs, and safety programs by making them readily available at the point of use. May include procedures, work instructions, product specifications, preventative maintenance, etc.
  • Communication
  • Interface with various levels of internal and external personnel ranging from production operators to executive leadership. This may be in person, email, phone/text, video conference, etc.
  • Provide downstream resources with the necessary information to perform duties.
  • Provide timely responses to applicable technical inquiries.
  • Operate Organizational Software – Be familiar with or willing to be trained on software that is necessary to perform job duties and maintain department/company standards.
  • Travel – Attend tradeshows, supplier visits, factory acceptance tests, etc. as needed.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in industrial engineering, mechanical, or electrical, will be considered. Experience may be accepted in lieu of education.
  • Two years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma green belt certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience using CAD/CAM software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
