We are looking for a full-time Accountant, Receivables and Trust. As a key member of the Finance team, you will be reporting to the Assistant Controller. In this role, you will collaborate with colleagues in Finance and the Legal practice groups to support the firm’s business and trust operations. You will be responsible for processing, record-keeping, and reporting of financial transactions for management and lawyers in accordance with best practices and applicable regulations.Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that all cash receipts (cheques, drafts and wires) are processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all trust activities (deposits, disbursements and investments) are processed accurately and in a timely manner, with particular attention paid to compliance with firm policies and LSO trust account requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries from colleagues in Finance and the Legal practice groups regarding cash receipts and trust activities
  • Gather, file and maintain all supporting documents for daily cash receipts and trust activities
  • Liaise with the bank to buy/sell currencies, place/redeem trust investments and investigate treasury issues as required, with particular attention paid to compliance with firm policies
  • Generate and prepare trust reports including but not limited to transaction histories/balances, reconciliations from subledger to general ledger and for settlement of firm invoices
  • Perform other duties as assigned and as backup for absent teammates when needed
Requirements:
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a financial or accounting role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with law firm accounting software is an asset
  • Familiarity with wire instructions (domestic and foreign) is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to accuracy and accountability
  • Commitment to support and collaborate with colleagues and clients
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Respect for discretion and confidentiality
  • Experience working in a professional services firm is an asset
