About This Position
The Assistant General Manager supports the Restaurant General Manager in delivering an exceptional, Forbes Travel Guide–level dining experience across assigned outlets. This highly visible leadership role requires a constant floor presence, refined service instincts, and a hands-on approach to guest engagement and team development. The Assistant General Manager plays a critical role in upholding luxury brand standards, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring every guest interaction is thoughtful, personalized, and seamless.
Key Responsibilities
Luxury Service & Guest Experience
Uphold Forbes Travel Guide and brand service standards at all times
Maintain an elevated and polished floor presence, proactively engaging with guests and anticipating needs
Lead service recovery with discretion, empathy, and professionalism
Ensure service flow, presentation, and attention to detail meet luxury expectations
Leadership & Team Development
Support the General Manager in coaching, training, and developing service teams
Reinforce luxury service behaviors through pre-shift meetings, ongoing feedback, and role modeling
Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Assist with onboarding and training to ensure associates fully understand luxury service expectations
Operational Excellence
Assist with scheduling, payroll accuracy, and labor optimization while maintaining service quality
Support inventory controls, requisitions, and proper storage procedures
Ensure compliance with hotel policies, health regulations, and safety standards
Oversee outlet readiness, cleanliness, and mise en place prior to service
Financial Performance
Support revenue growth initiatives while maintaining cost controls
Assist in monitoring labor, food, and beverage costs
Ensure cash handling procedures and internal controls are followed consistently
Events, Promotions & Brand Representation
Support execution of special events, VIP dining experiences, and promotional activations
Serve as a brand ambassador, representing the property with professionalism and confidence
Minimum of 2–4 years of supervisory or management experience in luxury hotel, fine dining, or Forbes Travel Guide–rated food and beverage operations
Demonstrated knowledge of Forbes Travel Guide standards, luxury service behaviors, and anticipatory guest service
Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment
Strong guest relations skills with a focus on personalization, name recognition, and service recovery
Experience with scheduling, payroll systems, inventory management, and cost controls
Solid understanding of food and beverage operations, service etiquette, and quality standards
Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Professional appearance and demeanor consistent with a luxury hospitality environment
Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
This position reports directly to the General Manager and collaborates closely with restaurant leadership to ensure the highest levels of Associate, Guest, and Financial satisfaction.
License/Certificate
Ability to obtain Tips/BASSET certification
ServSafe City of Chicago certification strongly preferred (ability to obtain certification if directed by the company)
