JOB SUMMARY:

The Visitation Facilitator plays a critical role in supporting healthy, structured visitation between incarcerated parents and their children on Saturday mornings at the Department of Corrections. This position ensures a safe, welcoming, and child-friendly environment during visits and provides logistical and emotional support to visiting families. The role helps strengthen family bonds and promote successful reunification by ensuring quality parent-child interaction under the Department’s policies and protocols.

WORK SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • This position is per diem/3 hours per session.
  • Due to the nature of the job, this individual must be flexible with their schedule to accommodate the client population.
Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Child Development, Criminal Justice, or related field, preferred.
  • Experience working with children, families, or justice-involved populations.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and neutrality in emotionally sensitive environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and the importance of family engagement in rehabilitation.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or multilingual proficiency.
  • Prior experience in a correctional, child welfare, or human services setting.
  • Ability to pass background checks and complete Department of Corrections training requirements.
  • Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations
  • Complete all required background checks

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and assist families during Saturday morning visitation sessions.
  • Facilitate a safe, respectful, and child-friendly environment for parent-child visits.
  • Monitor visits in accordance with Department of Corrections policies to ensure safety and appropriate interactions.
  • Educate parents and families on visitation rules, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Support special events related to family engagement (e.g., parenting days, family reunification programs, holiday visits).
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of visits, incidents, and participant feedback.
  • Provide referrals to parenting programs, counseling, or support services as needed.
  • Work closely with correctional officers, program staff, and family service providers to align visitation activities with rehabilitative goals.
  • Report any concerns regarding child safety or inappropriate conduct during visits to the appropriate authorities.
