Surgeons Choice Medical Center is a patient centered health care facility and physician owned destination of care focusing on all hand, joint, orthopedic and sports medicine. In 2004, in an ambitious push to bring hospitality back to the hospital, a small group of top Metro-Detroit surgeons decided to create their own surgical hospital; one that provided patients with the best possible care in a small, easy-to-manage environment that truly embraces the best patient experience. We have since become the premier center of choice with 30 surgical beds, 26 rehabilitation beds, and 6 operating rooms.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and monitors all physical plant duties and responsibilities.
  • Performs all functions of the job and addresses the needs of the organization in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Ability to be on call for emergencies at all times.
  • Attends committees and submits required reporting in a timely fashion (i.e., QAPI, Safety, Etc.)
  • Works with direct Supervisor in establishing goals for the department.
  • Responsible for the performance management of staff including completing performance evaluations.
  • Oversees Housekeeping department and performs personnel functions related to time keeping, management, reports, evaluations, and hire and dismissal, when necessary, in the absence of Housekeeping Supervisor.
  • Keeps an open mind and listens to constructive suggestions.
  • Keeps personnel up to date on all new policies and procedures and is able to answer any questions.
  • Shall promote personnel efficiency and job satisfaction through application of effective managerial techniques.
  • Assures proper use and accountability for supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains control over use and condition of the equipment and takes action to assure proper repair.
  • Shall be responsible for overseeing the established budget for the department.
  • Maintains statistical data that will assist in the annual budgeting process.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and environmental control regulations (AOA, State and Federal regulatory agencies).
  • Shall develop policies and procedures for the department and revise as necessary on at least an annual basis.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in standards for the above regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of immediate work area.
  • Complies with hospital/ department rules and procedures.
  • Shows proper concern and reports general maintenance needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Adheres to dress code established by department.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards fellow employees and job requirements.
  • Attends all required in services annually (Fire/Safety/Disaster and Infection Control, etc.).
  • Is absent infrequently and in accordance with Hospital policy.
  • Directs, supervises, and provides "Hands-on" assistance to maintenance personnel.
  • Prioritizes and responds in a timely fashion to departmental maintenance requests.
  • Confers with a variety of regulatory and inspecting authorities on matters pertaining to fire codes for physical plant, safety, elevators, boiler, SDS information etc.
  • Plans and recommends alterations of the physical facilities and grounds, including structural changes, modifications, repairs, and additions to existing facilities.
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts regular preventive maintenance to Hospital facilities and equipment.
  • Meets with outside contractors, sales representatives, and engineers in order to resolve matters concerning purchase of major equipment or supplies, repairs to the physical plant by outside contractors, planning of new construction and arranging for inspections by City inspectors and insurance carriers.
  • Reviews and analyzes bids submitted by outside contractors; makes authoritative recommendations to Administration regarding most acceptable bids.
  • Oversees all work performed by contractors to ensure quality work.
  • Conducts and documents fire drills in accordance with standards.
  • Continuous assessment and improvement of the department functions.
  • Maintains quality control/quality improvement programs.
  • Make recommendations for space utilization and other resources needed by the departments.
  • Complies and enforces State, Federal, and accrediting agency rules, regulations and standards.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in plant operations/maintenance, with supervisory responsibility.
  • Experience in maintenance record keeping and safety officer capacity.
  • Vocational training in plumbing, electrical, cooling and heating is desirable.
  • Experience working in a nursing home setting desirable.
  • Courses in hospital housekeeping or institutional management desired.
  • Must be able to take classes offered by the hospital and be able to attend seminars.
  • Required to work on special projects in addition to supervisory responsibilities.
