Facilities Maintenance Technician
Location: West Deptford, NJ
Department: Facilities & Biorepository Operations
Reports To: Facilities Manager / Biorepository Operations Director
Job Type: Full‑Time | On-site & some travel to additional worksites within a 40-mile radius
Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of a biorepository facility, including temperature‑controlled storage areas, mechanical rooms, laboratories, offices, and warehouse spaces. This role performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and facility improvements, with a strong emphasis on construction‑related skills, safety, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems including doors, walls, ceilings, flooring, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and basic electrical components.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on facility infrastructure and support scheduled inspections.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues; escalate complex repairs as needed.
- Support maintenance of temperature‑controlled environments (CRT, refrigerated, frozen, and LN₂ areas).
Construction & Facility Projects
- Assist with construction and renovation projects, including framing, drywall, painting, patching, minor carpentry, and equipment installation.
- Support facility upgrades, space reconfigurations, and rack or storage system installations.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors during construction or repair work, ensuring safety and compliance.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, HAZCOM standards, and biorepository SOPs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and inspection records.
- Support audits and inspections by ensuring facilities are clean, organized, and compliant.
- Assist with alarm response and incident reporting related to facilities issues.
General Facility Support
- Perform routine facility inspections and report issues promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical rooms, storage areas, and workspaces.
- Support snow removal, groundskeeping, loading dock operations, and waste handling as needed.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
Required Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or a related trade.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
- Basic computer skills; ability to learn work order or documentation systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with construction or renovation work (e.g., carpentry, framing, drywall, painting, basic electrical or plumbing).
- Experience working alongside contractors or vendors.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, HAZCOM, and lockout/tagout awareness.
- Prior experience supporting audits or compliance inspections.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in cold environments (refrigerators, freezers, LN₂ areas) using proper PPE.
- Manual dexterity for tools, small components, and detailed repairs.
Work Environment
- Biorepository and laboratory facility with temperature‑controlled areas.
- Exposure to mechanical rooms, construction zones, and warehouse spaces.
- May include occasional after‑hours or on‑call support during maintenance or emergency situations.
Compensation
Hourly Pay Range: $22.00 – $30.00 per hour
Pay is based on:
- Years of facilities and construction experience
- Breadth of hands‑on skills (carpentry, drywall, basic electrical/plumbing)
- Experience working in regulated, temperature‑controlled, or life‑sciences environments
- Ability to work independently and support facility projects with minimal supervision
