Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician – Seasonal/Special Events
Reports To: Emergency Medical Services Manager/Supervisor
SUMMARY:
Provides on-site medical standby coverage at assigned special events, delivering emergency care within the EMT scope of practice as a non-transport unit. This position is a seasonal, temporary role designated exclusively for special event coverage and is not utilized for 911 response or interfacility transport operations. Operates within the scope of event medicine and non-transport care as defined by EMS leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Utilizes the ambulance to arrive at the address or location given in a safe and efficient manner.
- Radios the dispatcher for additional assistance or special rescue service if needed.
- Complies with regulations on handling of the deceased, notifies authorities, and arranges for the protection of property and evidence at the scene.
- Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury and prioritizes care.
- Communicates relevant patient information to responding 911 transport units during patient hand-off as needed.
- Observes, records, and reports the patient's condition, treatments rendered, and significant clinical events to the incoming 911 ground or air transport crew upon hand-off.
- Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal special event coverage.
- Informs supervisor of ambulance repairs and maintenance needed.
- Supports the policies and procedures of the hospital and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.
- Considers age-related factors when dealing with patients ranging from neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies and procedures.
- Provides medical standby coverage for assigned special events.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license. Preferred National Registry (NREMT) EMT certification. Required State of Minnesota Emergency Medical Technician Certification along with current BLS certification.
All required certifications must be maintained for the duration of seasonal employment.
